🍕 Learning Through Their Interests – Lesson 4: Pizza!🍕

Our next learner-chosen topic in Teacher Jamie’s class was a very tasty one… PIZZA! 😋🍕

The class had so much fun learning about where pizza comes from, how it is made and all the different toppings we can choose from.

During their pizza-themed lesson, they:

🌍 Learnt about where pizza comes from and how it is made.

🧠 Played a pizza topping memory game.

🔢 Completed a sequencing activity, putting the steps of making a pizza in the correct order.

📝 Practised making and taking orders by choosing toppings, ticking them off a list and carefully following a friend’s request.

🍕 And, of course, the perfect way to finish the lesson… enjoying some delicious Debonairs pizza! 😋

Another learner’s interest turned into a hands-on learning experience filled with communication, memory, sequencing, listening and lots of fun! 💚

We can’t wait to see what’s on the menu for our next learner-chosen topic! 🌟

The winter vegetables our Induction Class planted towards the end of last term are growing beautifully! 🍃💚

It’s so exciting to see just how much they’ve grown and for our learners to watch their hard work, patience and care pay off. 🌱

From planting and nurturing to watching their vegetables flourish, it’s been a wonderful hands-on learning experience, and there’s something extra special about seeing a garden you planted yourself come to life! 🥬🌿

💇‍♀️✂️ Learning Through Their Interests – Lesson 3: Hairdressers!✂️💇‍♂️

Our next learner-chosen topic in Teacher Jamie’s class took us into the wonderful world of HAIRDRESSERS! 💇‍♀️

The class had so much fun learning about what hairdressers do, the tools they use and even getting the chance to become hairdressers themselves!

During the lesson, they:

🎥 Watched an introductory video about going to the hairdresser.

✂️ Discussed what hairdressers do and explored the different tools they use.

🩷 Used playdough to practise making a plait.

🎨 Got creative making their very own paper wigs.

💇‍♀️ And best of all… took turns pretending to be hairdressers and having their own hair done!

🧱 Learning Through Play with 6 Bricks! 🧱

Our GOAL Senior learners had a fantastic OT group session using 6 Bricks, a hands-on, LEGO-based activity that supports learning, development and problem-solving through play. 🌟

It may look like they’re simply building with bricks, but there’s so much learning happening along the way! 💚

Today they worked on:

🧠 Working memory – remembering and following instructions
👂 Listening skills – listening carefully and responding to instructions
🔄 Cognitive flexibility– adapting when things change or discovering that there may be more than one way to complete a task
💪 Frustration tolerance – managing challenges and persevering when things don’t go according to plan
📍Prepositions – understanding concepts such as in, on, under, next to and behind

A wonderful example of how purposeful play can build important skills while keeping learning engaging and fun! 🧱💚

During Speech Therapy in our GOAL Junior classes, our learners have been exploring the different cultures of South Africa. 🌍💚

This lesson focused on Zulu culture, giving our learners the opportunity to learn more about its traditions and cultural heritage.

To bring their learning to life, they got creative and made their very own drums! 🪘🎨

A lovely hands-on way to combine communication, creativity and cultural learning, while celebrating the diversity that makes South Africa so special. 🇿🇦✨

🚗✈️⛵️ Learning Through Their Interests – Lesson 2: Transport! 🚗✈️⛵️

Our next learner-chosen topic in Teacher Jamie’s class was all about TRANSPORT!🚗

The class had so much fun discovering the different ways we travel on land, through the air and across the water. 🌍

During their transport adventure, they:

🚗 Learnt about different types of transport, land, air and water, and discussed which forms of transport we use for short and long journeys.

🎨 Painted beautiful transport pictures using different colours.

⛵ Made their own little boats out of tinfoil and used straws to blow them across the water, just like the wind pushes a sailboat!

🔍 Investigated floating and sinking by adding marbles to their boats to discover how many each boat could hold before it sank.

What a wonderful combination of learning, creativity, experimenting and play, all inspired by something one of our learners wanted to discover more about! 💚

We wonder what topic will be chosen next! 🌟

The Induction Class has been having an amazing research lesson all about Italy!🍕🍝✨

The boys have been discovering interesting facts about the country and putting their research to work by creating some beautiful Italy-themed posters. 🇮🇹

And, of course, they added a little technology into the mix! 🤖📸 They’ve been using AI to generate some fun tourist-style photos of themselves, as you can see above! 😂

They’ve absolutely loved getting involved and have had so much fun combining research, creativity and technology in their learning. 💚

Learning certainly looks a little different when you take a virtual trip to Italy! 🇮🇹✈️
