I've been working with children the past few years "that doesn't fit in the box"........They don't fit into the "normal school / Traditional school establishments.......they struggle, because there's no time to deal with "them" in a "traditional" school......

I can clearly see the difference in selfworth and academic performance when you treat them right (not different).............It's powerful.......standing in front of a child who’s been labeled:
“difficult”
“behind”
“lazy”
“disruptive”
“not academic”
And yet… in the right environment, they bloom.

As qouted from the movie "The Accountant":

“One in 68 (maybe it's even more) children in this country are diagnosed with a form of autism. But if you can put aside for a moment what your pediatrician and all the other NTs ( Neurotypicals) have said about your child..... and the rest of us..........
What if we’re wrong? What if we’ve been using the wrong tests to quantify intelligence in children with autism?
Your child’s not less‑than......he/she is different. Now, your expectations for your child may change over time. They might include marriage, children, self‑sufficiency — and they might not. But I guarantee you, if we let the world set expectations for our children, they’ll start low… and they’ll stay there. Maybe your child is capable of much more than we know. And maybe — just maybe — he/she doesn’t understand how to tell us. Or… we haven’t yet learned how to listen.”

Powerful words indeed!!!!

WATCH | Basic Education Minister's update on budget cuts https://www.enca.com/videos/watch-basic-education-ministers-update-budget-cuts

FEW POINTERS FOR PARENTS THAT IS HOMESCHOOLING YOUR CHILD:

1. At 10:30 minutes into the video she says the quality of Ed cannot be guaranteed if there are budget cuts. So surely if we need to keep a min standard at home. They need to guarantee that at a school as if they don't and we are denied homeschooling we can argue that they cannot guarantee that our child will do better in a school. If anyone is denied homeschooling their child could they legally require the system to prove they can do a better job? 🤔

2. Keep in mind that the purpose of the assessments they want to do on homeschooling kids (as per the BELA BILL) is to ensure that education is taking place. If the inspectors demand CAPS assessments, remind them of this (especially applicable to parents with. neurodiverse child ), your child is receiving education according to his/her needs. As you have records and proof from professionals to show this, there should not be a problem. If your child does not fit into the normal schooling system, the DBE can not refuse you to home educate. Just treat the authorities with respect, with confidence and as colleagues. Be firm in your mind that you have primary authority over your children. However, do what you can to make them feel that you respect their "education and experience", and ask them if they have any suggestions or recommendations and tell them that you will discuss it with (for example) a educational psychologist. ( Remember that egos are sensitive and if they sense positive co-operation from you, they are more likely to leave you alone)
Also ensure that you can show them credible resources that cover the basics. They also often want to see your daily/ weekly/ termly schedule. Have one written up that would look acceptable to them - you don't need to tell them that you actually don't stick to it most days and educate around life - if that's what you do. Name the activities according to the subject names that they are familiar with : Bible study - record as life skills. Baking as home economics, fixing a bicycle puncture=science. Planning a trip - Geography. Climbing trees and gardening - nature study, Bedtime stories - literature ( just put it in your schedule sometime during school hours) ; play dates using dress ups = drama.
Sometimes you just need to be flexible, right?
😉. Make sure that you have a good answer that they can understand with regards to socialisation; eg outings, sports, cultural activities, scouts etc . They want to see that there is integration with diverse peoples.

Just one more thing that applies to everyone. If a student has done an assessment and fares below the expected standard, just state what steps are being taken to address the challenges.

Please don't stress - it will only make your homeschooling experience miserable and don't make your goal keeping the education department officials happy - pray and focus on what your child needs to prepare them to live a fulfilling life of service to the community and give them the tools to face the challenges and responsibilities awaiting them in adulthood. This is what the education department says that they want to achieve after all.

You love your kids and are doing what you believe is best for them. Believe in yourselves, build each other up, and encourage each other.

Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube is providing an update on budget cuts in her department that could potentially leave thousands of teachers without jobs.

GELEEN VANAF ANDER FB BLAD:

Jesus is everything...
As jy gewonder het wat daar staan.
Jesus is everything.

She hears God.
She hears Him differently than what we do.
And she prays different than us.

More verjaar sy.
11
Elf jarige se lengte.
7 jarige se bou.

Soms klim sy moedeloos in die kar.
Want sy moes lees.
In die klas.
Hard.
Haar grootste vrees.
4 weke terug weer.

By tannie Ria Renke twee maal ñ week.
Tussen tennis en koor en ekstra klasse.
Werk sy hard by tannie Ria ook.
Vir lees.
Vir wiskunde.

Vrydag klim sy in die kar.
Kop onderste bo.
Haar verjaarsdag helium balonne hang ook sommer.
Want haar gemiddeld is bietjie af.

Net net.
Gaivelle deurskuur.
Net net.

Ek sê girlfriend...
Jy is 20% op.
Jy het 20% geklim.
Sewentag...
Jou gaivelle is nie naby deurskuur nie girl.
You made it.
Big time.
Wow wow wow...

En ek sien hy kom terug.
Die smile op haar gesig.
Die helium balonne float ook sommer weer.
I did it.

Large enes.
Want Jesus sê so.
Want sy is genoeg.
Goed genoeg.

Want jy sien...

As jy daar is...
Wil ek vandag vir jou kom sê...
Jesus is everything.

As dit te swaar raak.
As jy moeg is.
As jy moedeloos is.

I am enough.
Ek... jou God...
Is genoeg.

Ek tel jou op.
Ek dra jou.
Ek hoor jou gebed.
Ek sien jou seer.
Ek hoor.
Ek..
Ek sal jou nooit begewe.of verlaat nie.

As Ek jou alles is...
Sal Ek jou vat...

Vertrou My...
Met jou alles.
Maak My...
Jou alles.

I am your God.
Your redeemer.
Die Enigste Een.

Bring vir My...
Jou seer.
Jou bang.
Jou moedeloos.
Jou siek.
Jou eensaam.
Jou sukkel.
Jou arm.
Jou honger.

Make Me your everything.
Put Me first...
And you will always be first.

Soek My eers.

Hou vas.
Klou vas.
Byt vas.

Shalom
Shalom

Dear Parents,

The exams are over and school is out tomorrow for the 2022 academic year.

Your children will bring reports home tomorrow. I know you are all really anxious for your child to do well.

What's the meaning of "doing well?"

Please do remember, amongst the children who sat for the exams, is an Artist, who doesn't need to understand Maths.

There's an Entrepreneur, who doesn't care about History or English literature.

There's a Musician, whose Chemistry marks won't matter.

There's a Sportsperson, whose physical fitness is more important than Physics.

If your child does get top marks then great. But, if he or she doesn't, please don't take away their self- confidence and dignity from them.

Tell them it's ok, it was just an exam. They are cut out for much bigger things in life.

Tell them, no matter what they score, you love them and will not judge them.

Please do this and if you do, watch your children conquer the world. One exam or a 90% marks won't take away their dreams and talent.

And please do not think that doctors and engineers are the only happy people in the world.

Be happy for them when they come home with those reports tomorrow. Encourage them to do better. Motivate those who were not successful. There's beauty in going back and giving it another shot. Don't judge them. They expect of you, their mother, their father, most of all to understand and to still believe in them.

Failing a grade can never make your children failures. Their destinies lie locked up in far greater things! ♡
