This year, Zambia’s health sector was allocated K26.2 billion, with K6.4 billion directed toward the procurement of medicines and medical supplies. That’s a 30% increase from 2025—a bold move to fill the gap left by the withdrawal of some external support.

But here’s the truth: money alone won’t fix broken systems.

We’ve seen it before—procurement scandals, expired drugs in storage, ghost deliveries, and facilities stocked with supplies that never reach patients. Governance gaps and ethical failures have cost lives, eroded public trust, and undermined donor confidence.

This budget increase is not just a financial shift—it’s a moral test.
