Today, we celebrate Zita Gouveia! We met Zita through the incredible charity Sole2Sole that her son, Dario set up! Zita is an incredible example of an empowered woman, who is raising and empowering her kids, who have in turn devoted their efforts to helping those in need. We supported Sole2Sole on a number of occasions and Zita has a very special place in our hearts.
We chatted to her about The Girlfriends Group and she said:
“Vibrant, smart, charitable and powerful women coming together to make a difference in the lives of people from all walks of life!
My encounter with the Girlfriends Group left me with that fuzzy feeling of community, A Safe Haven Place. These Girlfriends gave hundreds of children the opportunity to walk With Pride, to hold their heads up high, gave them the opportunity to Protect their feet from the cold and the opportunity to Learn by supplying many school goers with School Shoes. Thank you Girlfriends for taking action in the plight of Education and Basic Needs.”
Zita went on to tell us that one of her favorite quotes is “She Needed a Hero and that’s what She became!” This quote personifies her, and we are continuously motivated and inspired by her selflessness! Thank you Zita ❤️

Dawn Earp is another one of our girlfriends who joined us at our very first Charitea.
We asked Dawn for her Women’s Month message and she said: “For me, women empowerment is the courage to say no!”
The Girlfriends Group aims to help women find their courage and their strength to stand up for themselves.

This beautiful girlfriend is Siphesihle Maphanga. Siphesihle has been a big supporter of ours for many years, and is one of our biggest cheerleaders! We asked her about why she is a part of group and she said:
“In a world where women's voices and dreams are systematically censored by society, women are often “allowed” to reach the glass ceiling but never encouraged to break it. It was refreshing to find a place where a diverse pool of successful women are celebrated. A place where women can share their “big” dreams without fear of judgment and most importantly be supported to pursue those dreams by like-minded women while sipping on a simple cup of tea and giving selflessly to the less fortunate.
For me, every girlfriend’s group get together is a homecoming.”

“Did you know that our logo is inspired by an ancient symbol of womanhood? When inspired women gather together, wonderful ideas are brewed, and once stirred, great movements of change are bound. The Girlfriends Group logo embodies the magic that occurs at one of our Chariteas.” This was the inspiration that Chantelle Matthews drew on when she created our logo. Chantelle is another of our long standing supporters. Today we just wanted to say thank you for so perfectly capturing the essence that is us. Thank you Chantelle ❤️

Today we celebrate one of our longest supporting girlfriends, Pravitha Kavi Jogie. ❤️ Kavi has been with us since our very first Charitea, and holds a special place in our heart! We thank you for your support, encouragement and constant inspiration. We appreciate you!
When we asked her about , she said:
“The Girlfriends Group’s purpose is to support charities and provide opportunities for the upliftment of women and girls. Being a woman who has experienced challenges that women face daily in the world, I identify with and support the purpose of the Girlfriends Group.
It is also an opportunity to associate with likeminded women who share similar ideals.
In the words of Maya Angelou - “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” ❤️

Today we remember the incredible Sandra Miller. Even though she is no longer with her us, the amazing work that she did through Dignity Dreams continues to inspire and motivate us everyday. We are proud to have met her and to have heard her story about how she founded this amazing organisation where they continue to provides comfort and menstrual health education to young women and girls from disadvantaged and at risk communities. We are proud that she was one of our girlfriends, and this photo of her captures the beauty that is her so perfectly. We remain a proud supporter of Dignity Dreams and will continue to support the team as best we can, whilst honoring the amazing woman that was Sandra Miller.
