NTANDO NGUBANE
Class of 2007

‘I’m currently based in Johannesburg, where I work as Director: National Foodservice Chains at Kerry, a global food and ingredients company headquartered in Ireland.

Since leaving Felixton College, my career has taken me into the FMCG and food industry, where I’ve spent more than a decade growing as a commercial leader and working with some of the world’s leading food and restaurant brands.

Along the way, my curiosity about people and leadership led me back to the classroom. I completed my MBA at the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS), where my research focused on psychological safety in the workplace. That research was later published in the South African Journal of Business Management as a study on the leader competencies required to build psychological safety in hybrid teams.

It’s an area I remain deeply passionate about — particularly how we can build more human-centred workplaces where people feel safe to contribute, challenge ideas and bring their best thinking to the table.

Life outside of work has taken me on some equally memorable adventures. In 2025, I climbed Mount Kilimanjaro as part of Trek4Mandela, raising funds and awareness for Caring4Girls, which provides sanitary products to schoolgirls.

I’m also an avid Iyengar yoga practitioner and am currently completing my yoga teacher training. Yoga has become an important part of my life and continues to teach me patience, discipline and the value of remaining a lifelong student.

I also love travelling and experiencing different parts of the world. My travels have taken me to places including Turkey, Singapore, Rwanda and Peru, where I recently hiked the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu and explored the Amazon Rainforest.

Looking back at the girl who left Felixton College in 2007, I don’t think she could have predicted exactly where the journey would lead. What I’ve learnt is that a career — and a life — doesn’t always have to follow a straight line. There is always room to keep learning, challenge yourself, explore new places and become something you hadn’t yet imagined.

Where to next? Hopefully many more mountains, countries and opportunities to learn — while continuing to grow as a leader and, wherever I can, making a positive impact on the people and communities around me.’

**What have you been doing since you left school?**

After matriculating in 2006, "it's all out of control" turned out to be fairly prophetic. I’ve since lived in 5 countries and 12 homes, worked in over 20 jobs, had 3 kids in 2 marriages.

I studied graphic design at Durban University of Technology, graduating with distinction. Between semesters I chased ski seasons in Switzerland, instructing skiing, snowboarding and snow kiting, and picking up doorman, dishwasher and ski tech shifts along the way. Met some incredible people from all over the world and made memories that have stuck with me ever since.

In Switzerland I landed my first job as a web designer, and falling in love with being able to work remotely sent me down a winding path that’s seen me collaborating with some talented people from across the world. After that I moved to the Canary Islands and taught German tourists to surf, picked up the language, and learned that island life has an expiry date. From there it was London, to start my career properly and start a family. A year in was enough to know London wasn't for me, I wanted to get back to the beach.

So I spent the next five years building the experience and qualifications to get sponsored into Australia. 2 years training public speaking and communication skills, plenty of interviews and a few failed attempts along the way, until I decided to just fly over and make it happen myself. While I was over there, just two weeks before my second child was born, it paid off: I landed a role as a UX and creative design consultant at Deloitte Digital, who sponsored me to live and work in Australia indefinitely.

Australia brought new friends and new sports — skateboarding, surfing, trail running, mountain biking, kitesurfing, you name it — and eventually a divorce that meant picking up the pieces and starting again. Humbling, but it shaped who I am now.

These days I'm a Senior Product Designer, using the latest AI tools to shape digital experiences that help Fleet management organisations keep their vehicles safely on the road. Home is my fiancée and our three kids, and a house near the beach we're renovating, with a trip to Europe most years to keep the wanderlust satisfied. A couple of times a week you'll find me fishing off my kayak, honing my skills for the next competition or bringing a catch home to share with family and friends.

**Is there anything you'd change about your school career?**

Just one thing:
In Grade 11, Headmaster Rob Dixon chatted to me about a leadership position in matric and at the time I figured it would cramp my style and wouldn’t be ‘cool’, so I politely declined. Somehow I ended up with the deputy role anyway, so Rob had other ideas. Looking back, it's the one call I'd make differently instead of letting my own insecurities override my better judgement.

A Field of Dreams!

The dream of many past pupils became a reality last week when the Felixton College family celebrated the official opening of the magnificent new astroturf!

This is more than just a playing surface — it is a space where friendships will be made, skills developed, healthy competition enjoyed and countless memories created.

The 8-a-side hockey afternoon brought together Junior and High School pupils, past pupils, parents and staff, with mixed teams taking to the turf for an afternoon of hockey, friendly competition and plenty of Felixton College spirit.

Braai fires were lit, families enjoyed time together and the sidelines were filled with the wonderful sense of community that makes occasions like these so special.

We caught up with some of the past pupils who pitched to play and support the dream that was theirs when they were at Felixton College but never materialised during their time.

Dean Lombard, Connor Lendrum, Kyle Schnuir (all Class of 2022) and Tyron Seamark (Class of 24) eagerly pitched up to play and were blown away by this facility. Thank you gents for your support 👌

JADYN REDINGER
(Class of 2022),

Matric quote:
Jadyn would rather be in the bushveld than in an office. She would also be happy to dance with someone she does not really like, as long as they are wearing vellies' and it is to a
'sokkie-treffer'.
She was voted most likely to quit her job on a whim and hunt all over the world.

After matriculating, Jadyn’s life followed an unusual and daring path, taking on a 7 month Professional Hunters Course as well as a Buffalo course after which she then conducted guided hunts with international clients for a year. This included dangerous game hunts such as buffalo, crocs and hippos.

Jaydn now works as a videographer for hunting safaris. She films a clients hunt and then edits it for their personal footage as well as for marketing purposes.

‘My main goal is to educate people about the importance of hunting for wildlife conservation, and show that there is more to hunting than taking a trophy.’

❤️Our Alumni, Our Pride ❤️

Celebrating our alumni and the amazing heights they’re reaching.

David Jenkins (Class of 2010) was thrilled to be part of the BBC Proms' Graceland Tribute Concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London, sharing the stage with Ladysmith Black Mambazo, James Bay, Flyte, Laura Mvula, and the Nu Civilisation Orchestra.

David “Qadasi” (an old term for ‘white person’) is a Maskandi guitarist, concertina player, and vocalist whose love for traditional Zulu music was sparked in his youth while travelling through Zululand with his late father, Chris, who was a journalist. This early exposure developed into a profound passion for the culture and its music.

Maqhinga Radebe launched his career in the mid-1990s when he toured the United States with Ladysmith Black Mambazo as part of the stage production Nomathemba.

Since joining forces, Qadasi and Maqhinga have toured extensively across South Africa and internationally, captivating audiences in the UK, Europe, and Asia.

❤️‘Old’ Girls Reunite ❤️

It was a wonderful afternoon of laughter, memories and friendship as former Felixton College staff members gathered at FOMO in Mtunzini for a special reunion recently.

Together, these remarkable ladies represent an incredible 145 years of dedicated service to the College, touching countless lives along the way.

There was plenty of reminiscing, lots of catching up… and, of course, what was discussed at FOMO, stays at FOMO! 😉

Here’s to treasured friendships, shared memories, and the lasting Felixton spirit.

Peter Faul
(Class of 2010)
House: Vulcan ❤️

Peter started at Felixton College in Grade 1 and matriculated in 2010 with 6 distinctions.

‘The happy, child-focused environment of Felixton College helped develop his specific strength. Maths was his passion and Lesley Hoffman his inspiration’ said Pippa, his mother who served on the college council for many years.

Peter graduated from UCT with a Masters in Maths with distinction and was accepted at the University of Cambridge to do his PHD.

Upon graduation he was employed by Huawei in Cambridge as a researcher.
He went on to complete a postdoctorate at Ecole Polytechnic, the top science institute in Paris.

On completion he was employed by Lincoln College, University of Oxford as a stipendiary lecturer.

Peter is now happily settled in the Western Cape and is a senior lecturer in the Maths Department at the University of Stellenbosch.

Four Old Felixtonians conquered the ultimate human race, the Comrades Marathon uprun from Durban to Pietermaritzburg this past weekend!

We are immensely proud of these athletes and former pupils for their grit, perseverance and outstanding achievement.

His favourite memory of his entire school
career was last term’s Matric Getaway to Hluh-
luwe, while his funniest memory is of Khwezi,
wearing a dress and lipsyncing to Taylor Swift.
Voted ‘Most likely to become a social media
influencer’, Ben says that if he could change
one thing about school, it would be ‘no more
Shakespeare’. As you like it!

Ben currently resides in Roodepoort, Johannesburg.

He completed his Bachelors of Computer and Information Science at IIE MSA while working as a software developer awaiting to start his honors at Eduvos, Midrand.

When he is not eye deep into coding and building, he can be found behind a sound desk building his extra skills .

His advice to his fellow Felixtonians is ‘Don't be afraid to go the extra mile to achieve even more than just what you want because the world is yours, only aim to be better than the person you were yesterday, not the ones around you’.

MONGEZI NTSHANGASE

Magazine comment - "Mongoose' says that she was most influenced by Ms Reddy during her years at Felixton College.
When not distracted with thoughts of Hollywood heartthrob, Michael B. Jordan, the goose is working on her life plan to become a biochemist.
However, her peers are not convinced, having voted her 'Most likely to become a politician’.

Mongezi is currently living Cape Town.

She graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Life Sciences with Psychology and completed Honours in Psychology from Stellenbosch University last year.

The next step was to find employment but she had always wanted to be a medical doctor so is currently studying medicine at Stellenbosch University, which, she claims, is quite interesting with their new curriculum.

Whilst completing her honours, Mongezi’s understanding of the healthcare system in South Africa grew and she felt like she wanted to make a difference as a change agent.

That is one of the modules on which she is currently working.

‘It is a mindset that is encouraged, which I think is super cool”.
