The first University of Zululand Convocation Committee was elected in 1984 with the late Professor PC Luthuli as the first president. Subsequent Presidents were Professor LM Magi, Mr Jethro Ndlovu ( late), Mr Sisho Maphisa, Dr Simo Lushaba, Mr Mpho Makwana, Mr Vusi Mahaye, Adv Simo Chamane and the current president is Mr Bongumusa Makhathini. The first full-time Convocation Officer responsible for operations was appointed in 1998 and the incumbent, Mr Thula Makhathini, still holds the post.

Congratulations to one of our own ,our alumna Dr Nkosazana Dlamini- Zuma for being voted as the South African of the Year in the South African of the Year Awards (SATYs). She never disappoints, She always makes us proud.

Dr Nkosazana Dlamini- Zuma is the chairperson of the African Union Commission and was previously the minister of home affairs. Her contribution to pushing forward the African agenda on the International stage has been phenomenal.
It is no wonder South Africa saw it befitting to nominate her as the South African of The year for her excellent work as a public office bearer and champion of democracy. TNA

UNIZULU alumnus receives an honorary degree
Dr Don Mkhwanazi ,a prominent businessman was bestowed a Doctor of Technology degree in Management Sciences by one of the South African Universities ,Durban University of Technology on 03 September 2014.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor NM Mazibuko in her congratulatory message acknowledged his commitment and passion to the education of children and young people.” Your outlook to life has been consistently defined by your passion and commitment to the education of children and young people and the economic development of South Africa. You have remained firm, courageous and unwavering in your advocacy for economic justice, human rights and black economic advancement” she said.
UNIZULU trust that both the young and matured will emulate the values, courage and the conviction that drive and sustain Dr Mkhwanazi.
