In commemoration of Literacy Month, the National Reading Coalition (NRC) in partnership with the Department of Basic Education’s Read to Lead Campaign, launched the 1 Million Storybooks project on 02 September, at the Hlalisanani Primary School, in KwaMhlanga Mpumalanga.
The 1 million storybooks project is aimed at addressing the shortage of reading resources for pleasure in indigenous languages, to promote and inculcate a culture of reading amongst Foundation Phase learners in and outside of the classroom. A total of 1 million copies of 189 Foundation Phase stories have been developed and versioned into 9 indigenous languages, where they will be distributed to 8882 Primary Schools in 444 circuits identified by the NRC throughout literacy month.
The digitised stories are also accessible on the NRC website for download on www.nrc.org.za/books 📚

Our team was so excited to spend our morning at Assegai Primary. We're looking forward to kick-starting our brain training program. I think the kids enjoyed the teaser we put out today. Thankful once again to Principal Field and Dep Principal Brackenburg for the warm reception.
