Good day, its been a long time. so much has happened and a lot still has to happen yet. last month Art Knows No Boundaries started an eThekwini libraries tour. before i tell you all about it and how you can become a part of this awesome journey, let me first share my love stories with you. My beautiful and precious memories with umakhweyana my bestest friend.
A memory, a video stint of one of the special evenings with my teacher, "Bavikile Intombi endala Mabhengu Ngema" and one of my brothers, the brother i come after, "Owangishiyela ibele" "Sphelele Dlamini". On this perfect full mooned evening. we laughed, we moon bathed, moon danced and learned to listen with our hearts.
Arts Knows No Boundaries
Art Knows No Boundaries takes live music to schools, introducing Umakhweyana to students.
There is a need for conservation of our oral history, to address the diverse cultural context that makes our country this colourful hope for the world peace.

A good week to you my beloved friends❣️
As I reflect on the incredible flow of blessings, my heart is filled with a profound sense of gratitude. The unwavering belief and love you have shown me is truly touching.
From supporting the introduction of my new album to celebrating recent musical milestones with my band, continues to humble and inspire me.
We still feel the healing, resilience, and legacy-building we felt at the Bush Radio’s celebration of 30 years as a licenced broadcaster.
Reminding us that South African music is more than sound, it is the pulse of our collective healing. The anthem of what it is to be human. Ubuntu
Hence we say “Umuntu Uwumuntu Ngabanye Abantu”.
It is the same spirit of generosity that has natured another project very close to my heart.
It is with immense joy that I introduce my latest work, a translation of Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet into IsiZulu. Published by the University of Johannesburg Press, on the 18th of September. This book is a testament not only to the beauty of language, but to the power of community and support. It is another dream realised, and I share this achievement with all of you who encourage every initiative I venture into, no matter how uncertain. Thank you for being the foundation upon which these hopes and dreams are built.
This book can strengthen intergenerational bonds it has power that transcends age or religion. My partner was gifted this book by his mother when he was 11 years of age.
After many decades to him the book still carries the same weight.
Enjoy the journey through Zamani Makhanya’s illustrations. See link below.

PS:
On Wednesday the 24th of September, “WEATHER PERMITTING”.
At 9h30 I will be spending a heritage picnic with friends.
Place: Durban ,South Beach, in front of Surf Riders Restaurant.
Bring your picnic basket and join us, we will be at the beach side. Lots of fun, activities that will include a yoga session “The travellers Flow” because most of it can be done without a yoga mat, this is what Lungile, who’ll be leading us on this session told me.
Umphrofethi: The Prophet | UJ Press This translation by Lungile Dlamini is a timely gift of immeasurable proportions to her people. She is unequivocal in her offering, as articulated in her appeal to her readers: “Fundani le ncwadi, niyidlulisele nakwabanye njengesipho sengqondo nenhliziyo ejulayo ngomcabango".

A marvellous day to you all on this last day of July 2025. Tomorrow my Country Celebrates Women. The celebration is for the whole month...just one month..makes me wonder because in my family i grew up seeing women being celebrated every day and every time, all the time. Allow me to wish a Happy Woman's month in advanced to all women especially the ones in these pictures who are now in heaven being our angels and guides. These are women who removed stones not only from my path but for many others as well. Some of these women, like my own mother, opened doors to their homes and hearts, to all who needed protection and love. 🌿

Madala Kunene is not just a musician; he is a musical shaman, weaving a tapestry of sound that captures Africa’s heart and the blues’ soul. His journey from Cato Manor to the global stage is a testament to the transformative power of music—a legacy that continues to resonate in the hearts of music lovers worldwide.
Charismatic guitar savant Sibusile Xaba reframes Maskandi and the avant-garde into his own humanist manifesto. Xaba’s music shatters the confines of genre, taking only the fundamentals from mentors such as Madala Kunene and Dr Philip Tabane and imbuing these with a mythology and improvisational intensity all of his own.
In an ever-changing music landscape, Madala Kunene’s music remains a beacon of authenticity and tradition. His ability to uphold his roots while embracing change serves as a guiding light for artists and promoters alike. Kunene’s legacy transcends generations, shaping the future of South African music and inspiring artists worldwide. As a mentor for Sibusile Xaba for over a decade, this project sees them collaborate and present new compositions. The show at the John Kani will be the first performance of these new songs.
Joining this extraordinary collaboration is a powerhouse trio of percussionists - Gontse Makhene, Tshepo Motswe, and Dennis Magagula - drawing from the rich legacy of Malopo and its role in healing, storytelling, and connection.
Featuring special guest, Buhlebendalo, a visionary artist whose music and stage presence transcend boundaries. Her performances are a breathtaking celebration of her extraordinary talent and divine gift.
This unforgettable show will also honour the legacy of the late Thabang Tabane. His spirit and influence will resonate throughout the performance, paying homage to the profound impact he left on the world of Malombo music.
This concert is supported by Concerts SA The Market Theatre Madala Kunene Gontse Jnsq Makhene Dennis Magagula Mamodise Jess White

We are moving fast towards the end of the second month in 2025. Art Knows no boundaries is gearing to go back to schools and communities. Still telling our stories of the past and dreaming together about the kind of future we hope for our beloved earth. Celebrating our diversity whilst remembering and celebrating all those who came before and removed the stones on the way for our paths to be clearer and smooth.
Today i will share a poem by my big brother Eugene Skeef who because of his working closely with Steve Biko, was forced to leave this country to save his life. A poet and a founder member of a legendary music and poetry group called The Malopoets.
Enjoy this day and may your hope never desert you.
