Time for CHANGE ✊

One of the biggest issues facing women in South Africa is gender-based violence.

With a femicide rate 5x the global average, women in our country wake up to a scary reality every single day.

At the TLT Foundation, we believe the scourge of GBV cannot be solved by one person, one piece of legislation, or one action group. It will take all of us, doing what we know how to do best.

For us, this means changing the minds, attitudes and beliefs of young people, and breaking the cycle of domestic violence and GBV right here, right now, in this lifetime.

Our GBV Hot Topic workshop gives young people the space to have the conversation, the psycho-social support to understand the impact of GBV and the brave space to commit to GBV ending with us!

August is Women's Month in South Africa, and commemorates the 9th August 1956. The march on Union Building's against the Pass Law remains among the most iconic displays of unity, lobbying and strength in numbers.

And women in South Africa are still marching today. While we have come a long way since 1956, much work still needs to be done in our country to provide equality and eradicate injustice against women.

What changes do you hope to see for women in South Africa? Lets talk about it.

The countdown to the commencement of our Life Back into Life Orientation is approaching us quickly, and we could not be more excited!

If you know of any schools that would benefit from this project, let us know in the comments 👇

So... What is Life Back into Life Orientation?
We have been observing the Life Orientation curriculum for a few years now, and Life Orientation should be the most important subject for young people.
When done correctly, LO provides learners with an effective framework to navigate life beyond the safety of high school. Presently, schools are under-resourced in the LO department, and teachers don’t feel equipped or comfortable having difficult conversations.

We are going to change that.

We are re-writing the entire Life Orientation curriculum in accordance with CAPS requirements, and we aim to
- improve the LO content in a way that is relevant and immersive for the learners
- Assists educators by providing teachers with tools and solutions to have difficult conversations in a productive and meaningful manner.
- remain affordable and accessible to ALL schools in South Africa

We are so excited to be embarking on this journey with the following schools for our pilot:
Parktown Boys High School
Parktown Girls High School
King Edward VII High School
Durban High School
Northwood High School
Rondebosch Boy's High School

What young people in South Africa need, more than ever, is a brave space. A brave space to have courageous conversations to learn about themselves, the world we live in, and their place in it.

What the youth of South Africa really need, is a fresh wind. A group of people willing and able to speak life into their hearts, equip them with practical skills to handle the complexities of adolescents and early adulthood and motivation to remain servant-hearted leaders in their communities.

What South Africa's youth need, is for its adults to help make a difference, a positive change.

And TLT is on a mission to do JUST THAT!
