How do stories help preschoolers understand the world around them?

🏰✨ Once upon a time in the Blue Group…

Our theme has been Fairy Tales, and we’ve been very busy bringing some of our favourite stories to life!

👑 We loved The Princess and the Pea, especially the enormous pile of mattresses! Our little artists carefully drew the princess tucked into bed for the night.

🏰 We also created our very own fairy-tale castles, with the children cutting out most of the pieces themselves, fantastic practice for those growing fine motor skills!

💧 Meet our Drippy Droplets! ☁️🌧️

Cape Town is certainly wet in winter, which gave us the perfect opportunity to discover where all that water goes… and where our water comes from!

Our little ones followed Drippy on his journey as he falls from the clouds as rain, helping to fill our dams so we have water to use at home and at school. Then, when the sun comes out, Drippy uses his springy arms and legs to make his way back up into the clouds. ☀️☁️

It’s the water cycle, three-year-old style! 💙 Through stories, characters and creativity, even big concepts can become something our little minds can understand, remember and enjoy. 🥰

🐟 One fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish! ❤️💙

A little Dr. Seuss inspiration brought plenty of colour and creativity into the classroom!

Painting, stamping, counting and creating our very own colourful fish is a fun way to bring a favourite story to life while developing fine motor skills, colour recognition and early number concepts along the way. 🎨🐟

🍪 Run, run as fast as you can… you can’t catch me, I’m the Gingerbread Man! 🏃‍♂️✨

Our nursery rhyme theme got extra tasty as our little bakers made their very own gingerbread people!

Rolling, shaping, decorating and counting those all-important chocolate buttons turned a favourite story into a hands-on learning adventure. 🤎

And, of course, the best part was getting to eat our creations! 😋
