One of the core principles of the chanoyu practice (matcha tea ceremony) is that mastery emerges through complete presence and refinement in seemingly simple acts. Real practice is anything but performative.

The profundity of chanoyu arises from the capacity to bring absolute attentiveness to the ordinary. Boiling water, preparing tea, receiving a guest, cleaning a utensil or sitting in silence become methods of cultivating awareness. The simplicity removes distraction and exposes the practitioner directly to themselves. Every movement therefore reveals the quality of one’s mind, discipline, and presence.

Be present with your tea and listen to what it has to say.

The truth about Ceremonial matcha. Ceremonial and Culinary are Western created terms that refer to the way the tea has been processed; otherwise known as grading. Grading DOES NOT guarantee quality! Some culinary matcha can taste better than some ceremonials! Ceremonial grades are suited to traditions, ingredient-free applications because the flavour profile is subtle, nuanced and completely lost when using anything other than water. Culinary grades are suited to ingredient use such as lattes because flavour profile has the perfect chemistry to pop when used as a latte. Of course, not all culinary grades are good and some are just for baking. Why pay insane amounts of money only to water it down with ingredients and miss out on the entire purpose of its processing.
