The Democratic Alliance (DA) will not allow a Bill that strips fi****ms from law-abiding citizens, especially not in a climate where violent crime runs rampant and SAPS is failing to keep South Africans safe. Any attempt to disarm responsible citizens while criminals remain armed will be opposed outright.

It is deeply alarming that key voices are being excluded from the process around the Fi****ms Control Amendment Bill currently before NEDLAC.

South Africans deserve a police service that takes illegal guns off our streets and fixes the broken Central Fi****ms Register. They do not deserve more laws that punish responsible people while giving criminals the upper hand.

For over 40 days, NEDLAC has been sitting on this Bill without engaging a single stakeholder from the fi****ms or security sectors. The South African Gunowners’ Association, Gun Owners of South Africa, the Safe Citizen Campaign, accredited trainers, sport shooting bodies, and private security have all been sidelined. That is not consultation, it is secrecy.

It appears that the Bill now before NEDLAC is a reworked version of the 2021 proposal, which was rejected outright by more than 118 000 South Africans. If it is the same Bill, the DA will reject it again. If it is new, the DA will reject it if it undermines the constitutional right of South Africans to safety and security. Either way, we will not support measures that disarm responsible citizens while empowering criminals.

This mirrors the recent PSIRA debacle, where PSIRA tried to push through harsh regulations for the private security industry without public participation. Only public pressure stopped it. Now the same playbook is being used with fi****ms legislation.

Industry insiders warn that the amendments aim to:
•Cut down private firearm ownership;
•Make it harder to obtain self-defence licences;
•Tighten restrictions on the private security sector; and
•Impose new, costly requirements on lawful owners.

None of this will stop violent crime or illegal gun networks. What it will do is weaken citizens’ ability to defend themselves while leaving criminals untouchable.

The DA calls on NEDLAC to open these deliberations immediately. If not, the DA will take this fight to the public and obviously to Parliament.

Sheepdogs

“You’ve probably heard me talk about ‘sheepdogs’—but what does that really mean?

The concept comes from Lt. Col. Dave Grossman, a retired Army Ranger and author of On Combat. In his essay, he explains that society is made up of three types of people:

🐑 Sheep – The majority. They go about their day unaware of danger, trusting that someone else will protect them. Living in denail.
🐺 Wolves – Predators who prey on the weak, taking advantage of others for personal gain or malice.
🐕 Sheepdogs – The protectors. They are the people who step up, train, and stand ready to defend those who cannot defend themselves.

Sheepdogs are guardians. They protect their families, their communities, and the people they love. They don’t seek conflict, but they accept the responsibility to act when danger comes.

Grossman’s point is simple but powerful: most people are sheep, some are wolves, and a few choose to be sheepdogs. Sheepdogs live with awareness, discipline, and courage, because they understand that real threats exist and preparation is the key to survival.

At Clan and Kin, we train to be sheepdogs—equipping our students with the mindset, skills, and confidence to protect themselves and those they care about. Being a sheepdog isn’t about fear or aggression—it’s about responsibility, readiness, and love for the ones you protect.

Remember: Life isn’t static. Evil exists. Good people must be prepared.
Choose to be a sheepdog.

Advance your training ,push your limits.

“Static shooting has its place—it’s where we build the fundamentals. But once those are solid, we shouldn’t waste time standing still.

Training should evolve:
🎯 Smaller targets to sharpen accuracy.
⏱️ Time constraints to build pressure.
🔄 Reloads, movement, and decision-making under stress.

Because real-world violence is fast, chaotic, and unforgiving. Don’t just practice shooting—practice fighting with your firearm.

It was a fun but serious day on the range—because every rep builds skill, and every skill needs maintenance. Just like your firearm, your training must be looked after to stay sharp and reliable.

Advance your training. Push your limits. Train the way you’ll fight.

🛡 CLAN AND KIN — WHO WE ARE, WHAT WE STAND FOR 🛡

There’s a piece of writing that shaped my life and guides everything we do at Clan and Kin Fi****ms Training. It’s Lt. Col. Dave Grossman’s powerful essay, “On Sheep, Wolves, and Sheepdogs”, further explored in his book On Combat.

In it, Grossman writes:

“Most of the people in our society are sheep. They are kind, gentle, productive creatures who can only hurt one another by accident. But then there are the wolves, and the wolves feed on the sheep without mercy.”

But there is a third type — the sheepdog. In Grossman’s words, the sheepdog is the one who sees danger for what it is and chooses to be ready for it. For the civilian protector — the dad walking his family through a parking lot, the woman leaving work late, the person who carries not out of fear but out of responsibility — the sheepdog mindset is about preparation and willingness.

Preparation means building skill, sharpening awareness, and carrying the tools you may need before danger ever arrives. Willingness means living with the quiet resolve that, should harm come to your family or community, you are ready to meet it head-on. The sheepdog does not seek conflict, but is prepared to stand firm when danger comes.

The first time I read these words, they hit me like a thunderclap. It was more than a metaphor — it was a mirror. I realised there had been times in my life when I lived like a sheep, unaware of how real danger truly is. And I also recognised the pull — the calling — to be something more: to stand watch, to be ready, to protect.

That calling is the heart of Clan and Kin.
The word Clan speaks to the community we are building — a fellowship of protectors, a circle of trust and support.
The word Kin goes deeper. Kin means family. It’s a reminder that we don’t just protect “people” in an abstract sense — we protect our people. Whether by blood, friendship, faith, or shared values, when you stand with us, you’re more than a student. You become kin.

And here’s the truth — you don’t have to already see yourself as a sheepdog to train with us. Whether you’re looking to become one, want to learn more about fi****ms, or simply wish to explore fi****ms in a safe, structured, and supportive way, we provide that environment. From foundational safety and marksmanship to defensive skills, we meet you where you are and help you grow.

Our slogan — Faith • Family • Fi****ms — sums up our values:

Faith is the anchor that keeps us steady in times of fear and uncertainty.

Family is why we prepare, protect, and persevere — it’s who we stand for.

Fi****ms are the tools we train with, not for violence, but for the preservation of life and the defence of what matters most.

At Clan and Kin Fi****ms Training, we believe in:

Faith over fear.

The reality that evil exists — and good people must be ready to meet it.

The truth that we are our own first responders.

We train not just for skill, but for mindset. We prepare not just for the range, but for the real world. And we do it with integrity, discipline, and a deep respect for the responsibility that comes with the role of the sheepdog.
