Join us at the 1st ever "Language Our Freedom" Event. Rooted in our history of the Soweto Uprisings, it is dialogue on the future of Language in SA Classrooms.

Join us on this Youth Day, on June 16 at the 1st ever "Language Our Freedom" Event. Rooted in our history of the Soweto Uprisings, It is a dialogue to celebrate and discuss the future of African Languages in SA Classrooms and Society. It will be a hybrid event (incl. Virtual) hosted at The University of the Western Cape.

It is an opportunity to reflect on the opportunities, challenges and insights that work in this arena by various sectors of society has afforded us. The following issues will be explored during the event: language and literacy, language and exclusion as well as language and memory. In addition to the conversation, there will be literary activities that demonstrate the value of language in our way of life, as well as the gap that is created when language is not adequately utilised or represented. The planning committee comprises of academics from various institutions, publishers, members of the DBE & Civil Society, and other key stakeholders in the literacy work and conversations.
