At Varsity Tutors we pride ourselves on our tutoring quality, excellent service, pass rates and reasonable fees. Varsity Tutors had its humble beginnings almost 3½ years ago in April 2008. The initial offering was essentially a booster/summer school course for 1st year accounting students. Hartley Dafel and Wilfred Lesch, who at the time were both senior lecturers at the largest private tertiary i
nstitution in South Africa, decided to join forces and offer superior quality education at a price that made it accessible to students from all walks of life. Varsity Tutors provides tuition support for higher education degrees offered by external providers such as UNISA. The initial courses were presented on Sundays mornings and afternoons, approximately 4 weeks before the final exam with each morning or afternoon session lasting 4 hours each. The subjects were at this stage limited to 1st year UNISA accounting (FAC 1502 and FAC 1601). The courses were priced and structured differently, to the traditional private tertiary institutions, which proved to be a wining formula and the key to student satisfaction. The student numbers grew year on year (mainly through word of mouth) growing from ±20 students to ±150 students in the 3½ years. The pass rates were amazing being as high as 98% with the same in student satisfaction. The response has been overwhelming with students requesting that we offer additional 1st year modules (economics & mathematics) and extend the offering into 2nd and 3rd year modules offering all the traditionally difficult subjects (accounting, tax, economics, finance and mathematics). There has also been a demand to not only offer the booster/summer school courses but also full and part time tuition which together with our students will be our next exiting step. At Varsity Tutors we pride ourselves on our tutoring quality, excellent service and pass rates which are above that of any tertiary service provider.
