🌵🌸 A beautiful surprise from an ageing cactus!
Today this very long cactus gave us the most beautiful flower — and it got us thinking about something many people may not know about: corking.
You’ll notice that around two-thirds of this cactus has become brown, rough and woody. This is called corking.
Corking is a natural process that can happen as many cacti mature and get older. The skin gradually becomes thicker, harder and more woody, creating a protective layer around the older parts of the plant.
It can look a little strange if you’ve never seen it before, but corking is not necessarily a sign that your cactus is dying or unhealthy. In many mature cacti, it is simply part of the ageing process.
And the best proof? 🌸
After all these years, this cactus is still growing, and today it rewarded us with the most beautiful flower! ❤️
🌵 Sometimes the oldest plants still have the most beautiful surprises. 😍
