RICHARD WAGNER SOCIETY TO PRESENT A LIEDER SOIREE

Art songs will be the focus of the first Richard Wagner Society soiree of the season which takes place on Sunday, October 26 in Sea Point at 18:30.
The lieder - Melodies in Words - Songs about Love and Loss - will be performed by two of South Africa’s most popular entertainers, soprano Lynelle Kenned and pianist Stefan Lombard.
The 60-minute recital presents a captivating selection of beloved and rarely performed works in German, French, and Afrikaans. Through the expressive power of music and poetry, the programme delves into the depths of the human experience — love, loss, laughter, and life — and features arias and lieder by Mozart, Gabriel Fauré, Henri Duparc, and Pieter de Villiers, as well as Schumann’s complete song cycle Frauenliebe und -Leben, Op. 42.
Widely known for its popular cross-genre programmes, the duo is equally celebrated for its classical performances and mastery of art song.
Lynelle Kenned and Stefan Lombard have earned national and international acclaim. Both hold classical music performance degrees and are equally at home in genres ranging from opera and lieder to contemporary song. Joint projects, beginning with Cape Town Opera's 2014 UK tour of Showboat, include David Kramer's Orpheus in Africa, Valentines Under the Stars, and the Cape Town Philharmonic Variety concerts. They have performed at Klein Karoo Klassique, as well as unique locations such as Hillcrest Quarry, the Namib Desert, Haute Cabrière cellars, and the Güray Ceramic Museum in Cappadocia, Turkey. They share a 2025 DSTV Kyknet Fiësta award in the category Best Music Driven performance, selected from 7 Arts Festivals held countrywide.
Tickets for this hauskonzert in Sea Point are R300 for members of the Richard Wagner Society and R330 for guests and include refreshments and a finger buffet. To reserve your seat, contact [email protected]
