From Principle to Practice
The Road to Independence Protocol is an example of how the principles of reasonable accommodation can be translated into a practical, disability-specific framework for adults with hearing loss.

It provides a structured approach to identifying functional needs, barriers and appropriate support — helping move from a clinical diagnosis to meaningful participation and independence.

This approach aligns with South Africa’s White Paper on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which calls for the development of minimum norms and standards for reasonable accommodation.
