The law dictates that employers must maintain a safe working environment and ensure operators are properly equipped, trained, and supervised.
Compliance relies on four main pillars:

1. Mandatory Operator Training
Operators must hold a valid, SETA or QCTO accredited Certificate of Competence.
• Under Driven Machinery Regulation 4, employers must ensure every operator understands the machine's dangers and the precautionary measures required.

2. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Employers are legally obligated to provide suitable, compliant PPE to minimize the risk of flying debris, noise, and vibration injuries.
Standard requirements include:
• Eye & Face Protection: Safety goggles or a full mesh face visor.
• Hearing Protection: Ear muffs or earplugs to reduce noise exposure.
• Leg & Foot Protection: Cut-resistant trousers or chaps, and safety boots (steel-toe).
• Hand Protection: Heavy-duty work gloves.
• Body Protection: High-visibility vests or work suits.

3. Machine Safety Requirements
