Im so proud of all my students! 🀩🌼🌸
This was our first watercolour floral workshop and as always, I was a little nervous presenting a new subject. Which was completely unnecessary with such a wonderful group!

They took to watercolour florals like a fish to water and I loved seeing each student's unique and beautiful style come out as they gained confidence πŸ₯°

For anyone looking for watercolour workshops in Cape Town, take a look at my upcoming workshops. ✨

Hey Sweet Art - Creative Prompts's this week came at the perfect time! I recently found Suvar Hariparsad's page, thanks to their partner sharing it with me, and Ive been wanting to paint one of their gorgeous confections since!

So when "pastry" popped up as the prompt of the week, i knew what had to done πŸ˜‰

This was inspired by his madeleine collection posted a couple days ago - each as beautiful as the next and the perfect models for this prompt - thanks for the inspiration to you both! ❀️

A quick example of a daisy we'll be learning in my upcoming Simple Watercolour Florals workshop this coming weekend, 26 July

Are there any specific flowers you'd like to learn to paint? 🌸🌸

What started as a "quick idea" to re-use some watercolour paper scraps as business cards turned into a whole mission:
The DIY Custom stamp kit I had was too small to fit all my info.
Then I tried printing the cards using a Pixma printer, but the ink isn't waterproof, so my logo turned to mush the second water touched it. πŸ™ˆ

Finally! Wax medium to the rescue to seal the logo! Which meant i could safely paint whatever I liked without smudging the printed area πŸ™Œ

Somewhere between "presentable card" and "something from my trash can," I found a sweet spot that i feel proud to hand out to folks. And i especially love when people shuffle through the cards to choose their favourite πŸ₯°

I love hand-painting my own business cards
It started with the idea of using watercolour paper scraps and just using a customised stamp but I couldn't fit all the information I wanted on my card onto the DIY stampπŸ™ˆ

Thanks to my friend Martinus van Tee's fine art printer I could experiment printing directly onto the paper....but then we realised the ink isn't waterproof.
Next step was using some wax medium to seal the logo on the card and Ta-Da! I could paint to my hearts content without leaving my logo a muddled mess πŸ₯³

Its been quite the process to figure this out and to strike a balance between a presentable card VS something i fished out of my trash can. But its become one of my favourite creative exercises to warm up with before painting and sometimes it inspires where i'll go that day while painting πŸ₯°

The most low-stakes way I warm up before painting? Hand-painting my own business cards πŸ₯°

What started as a "quick idea" turned into a whole process:
- DIY Custom stamp β†’ too small to fit all my info
- Printed logo (thanks Martinus van Tee) β†’ ink wasn't waterproof, logo turned to mush the second I painted
- Wax medium sealed over the print β†’ finally, a logo that survives watercolour

Somewhere between "presentable card" and "something from my trash can," I found a sweet spot that i feel proud to hand out to folks ✨

Now it's become one of my favourite ways to ease into a painting session - and honestly, it sometimes tells me where the rest of the day's painting is headed.
