Who checks on the woman everybody checks with?
The one who remembers.
The one who organises.
The one who knows where everything is.
The one people phone when something goes wrong.
The one who keeps the family connected.
The one who notices when everyone else is struggling.
The one who says:
“Don't worry. I'll sort it out.”
There is nothing wrong with being dependable.
But there is a difference between being someone people can rely on and becoming responsible for holding everybody together.
If you're constantly checking on everyone else, perhaps this weekend is an opportunity to turn one of those questions towards yourself:
How am I actually doing?
Not:
“What still needs to get done?”
Not:
“Who needs me?”
Just:
“How am I?”
And then give yourself enough quiet to hear the answer.
I'd love you to finish this sentence:
Lately, I wish someone would ask me ________.
