Little white mussel cracker I got whilst targeting Galjoen, when fishing this area of the coast I tend to fish bigger hooks and thicker trace incase one of these fish hit you while scratching around and finally it paid off! Tackle used was an Assassin horizon medium, Saragossa 10 000 and a 3/0 Kobu circle hook. Bait white mussel redbait mix.

Seriola lalandi- the Cape Yellowtail. This notoriously strong fighter inhabits most parts of the worlds sub tropical waters.

For sure they one of my favorite species to catch and are still regarded as sustainable! Nothing beats the thrill of having them chase down your plug or surface lure!

Pomadasys commersonnii, the spotted grunter or tiger.

Occurring in warm temperate waters from India to South Africa and as far south as false bay. Juveniles are heavily estuarine dependent with adults moving into the surf zone to breed around September time.

They can be caught on a multitude of different baits and artificial lures but prefer their natural foods like prawns and worms. An extremely exciting fish to target as you often see them tailing in the shallows where they pump water in reverse through their gill flaps to blow prawns out the holes.

This fish ignited my passion for fishing as a kid as they fight extremely hard and are loads of fun to catch on light tackle.
