Part 2:
After a rigorous few months of online interactions dealing with the sensitive subject matter of segregation and it's far reaching effects, our participants finally got the opportunity to meet in person, across the three generations who contributed so diligently and openly.

Our fantastic chief facilitator, Shaun Warner, engaged them on five provocative questions, expanding on the intense groundwork and immense trust that was established online.

They were taken "back to the classroom" with pen and notepad in hand, allowing for an organic thought process to occur and given time to "feel their thoughts" through the deliberate movement of writing down their answers.

Facilitator Robyn Jill Radcliffe engaged their inner child with a creative foray into evoking images, dreams and feelings from one of the five questions. Art was made and the foundation of hope for a better outcome, in differing and unique ways, was further laid.

Their engagement, as with the online aspect, proved respectful to the facilitator(s) and towards one another, whilst providing searingly honest responses that came straight from the heart yet, simultaneously, were critically thinking aligned and allowed for deep sharing, active listening and a profound on-going discussion.

There were moments of mirth and misty eyed gravitas. Hearts were gently harangued and minds were moved to make sense of the past, the present and the foreseeable future.
Indeed, friendships were forged as trauma emerged, a purging of some of the injustice experienced and a bonding took place.

At Paperclip, we pride ourselves on the personal touch. We like to get to know what makes you, as an individual, tick.

As coordinators, teachers and creatives, the room was largely made up of people with whom we had built relationships with over time.

This week's bespoke Paperclip Consultancy Lifeskills Programme session on Saturday was all about being creatively expressive!
Our young participants excitedly chose from a selection of props and were instructed to create a short play, incorporating some of the topical themes we had covered thus far.
This was designed to ascertain if they were retaining the essence of the previous few sessions lessons in a way that was fun and applicable to life.
They were given time to create their "plays" and even went as far as to have various scenes depicting bullying, conflict resolution and emotional intelligence.
They also enjoyed playing some lovely, good old fashioned games, which brought out their competitive sides, like Snakes & Ladders, marbles, XO and Luddo.
We should all encourage our kids to get off their devices and actively engage with each other. They definitely appreciated a detour from the more serious themes and the facilitators also got to immerse in some inner child activity.
