Paper Clip Consultancy savoured a cosy collaboration with Surplus Radical Bookstore and some lovely folk, as we reflected on the diverse realities of Cape Town women, through powerful poetry and thought-provoking storytelling. Delicious cookies, made by the Bearded Baker, aka Shaun Warner, were enjoyed and an energetic book auction added a fun element to a wonderful few hours.

The Paperclip facilitators were invited as guest speakers and writing coordinators to run a paid workshop, discussing the ART of PROSE. It was an intimate gathering at a nook-filled, charming abode, with wonderful people who love words in their own special way. The topic presented its own challenges, as good prose has no set rules or structure, yet the conversation and storytelling, shared examples of favourite book quotes and talented authors of both fiction and famous speeches, created a sense of camaraderie in our mutual appreciation for the subject matter. The writing exercise had participants eager to share, after intense pen to paper moments.

The third letter in our PAPERCLIP acronym stands for PROSE, and as writers who revere language and the construction of elegant, impactful, emotionally unraveling sentences, our facilitators enjoyed leading this amazing session.

How do we build the bridge? Sometimes, all it takes is a simple but powerful reminder - to remember our humanity in the midst of madness. To treat each other, first and foremost as human beings. Thank you, Waseefa Parker Malick for bringing it back to the core of creating change cognitively, as well as within our communities.

A snippet from our facilitators final sentiments at the Paperclip Lifeskills Programme Graduation Day. It was a proud and poignant moment! The kids enjoyed a small party and certificates for completing the course with flying colours.

This reflection on the Paperclip facilitators from one of our young participants was unprompted and unrehearsed.

The group was given time to respond to a simple questionnaire and had the confidence to engage with us verbally as well.

The Critical Lifeskills Programme was built on trust and honesty. Our facilitators kept it real whilst fostering a caring environment every step of the way. Each topic was tackled bearing the child's development and circumstances in mind. In this way, they truly felt seen and heard by the end of the twelve week period and we hope the lessons learnt will have a practical and positive impact on their lives in the future.
