In this assignment, I'm showcasing the hard landscaping layout. This section goes into detail on the landscape furniture used in this design, as well as the paving kinds and patterns present on the site.

After we finished drawing our sketchplans for the Cape station location, we were told to create a planting plan based on those designs.This planting plan includes the type of vegetation or plants that you intend to put on your site, whether they are part of the local vegetation type on the site, and the number of different plant species.

As students studying landscape architecture, we were given the task of designing and perfecting our sketchplan, which we accomplished with the use of AutoCAD and Photoshop.Here is my completed, detailed AutoCAD sketchplan.

The picture in this post showcases my considerations and strategies for the site. Key aspects include selecting drought-resistant, native plants suitable for shale renosterveld, incorporating vertical gardening to maximize space, and using sustainable materials for planters and benches. These strategies aim to create a resilient, eco-friendly rooftop garden that harmonizes with its environment.

Cape Dutch architecture, characterized by its ornate gables, thatched roofs, and whitewashed walls, reflects South Africa's colonial heritage. I chose this design concept for its timeless elegance and cultural significance, aiming to blend historical charm with modern functionality, creating a unique and captivating aesthetic for our project.

Vertical gardening on rooftops maximizes space, allowing for more plant diversity in limited areas. It improves air quality, reduces heat absorption, and enhances insulation. By growing vertically, we create a lush, green environment that supports biodiversity, conserves water, and contributes to urban sustainability and aesthetic appeal.

While I was doing my design for the Cape Station Sketch-plan I learnt that Incorporating planters and benches into our rooftop garden enhances both aesthetics and functionality. Planters filled with native plants promote biodiversity and reduce heat absorption, while benches made from recycled materials provide seating and encourage social interaction. Together, they create a sustainable, eco-friendly space that fosters community and environmental stewardship.

We were assigned to do a planting plan for our site "Cape Station Rooftop." I did some research on the plants that are perfect for a rooftop garden in the shale renosterveld vegetation area. I discovered that hardy, drought-resistant plants like succulents, aloes, and indigenous grasses thrive in these conditions, bringing vibrant greenery and ecological balance to our rooftop space. Embracing nature's resilience, we created a sustainable rooftop garden.

In the following drawing I am demonstrating the sections of my sketch plan, These sections shows vividly how I am seeing this space and the idea I have in terms of experiencing the design. I am also showing how I want my markets to be like.

These sections were designed from the concept idea for the site , before going into details with my sketchplan, I designed sections that will demonstrates how I am picturing the design in my head.
