Eskom Expo Northern KwaZulu-Natal

From young innovator to healthcare professional, Eskom Expo for Young Scientists alumna and former Ladysmith High School learner Yashoda Naidoo is using her passion for science and innovation to make a meaningful impact in people’s lives.

Originally from Ladysmith in KwaZulu-Natal, Yashoda transformed her early interest in science and research into a rewarding career in healthcare. After completing her schooling, she pursued a Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy at the University of the Free State in Bloemfontein, completed her community service in Ladysmith, and later transitioned into the private healthcare sector in Gauteng.

Today, Yashoda is furthering her studies by pursuing a Master’s degree in Physiotherapy at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. Her decision to pursue physiotherapy was driven by a desire to help others and a fascination with how the human body functions. Through her journey of curiosity, resilience and purpose, Yashoda continues to inspire the next generation of young researchers to explore STEM careers and use science to create positive change.

Colenso Primary School hosted the Eskom Expo NKZN District Selections on 19 May 2026, where learners proudly presented their research plans and discussed how they intend to further develop and improve their projects.

The District Expo provided learners with an important opportunity to engage with selectors, receive guidance, and strengthen their scientific thinking as they continue their research journey.

The Eskom Expo NKZN (Loskop) District Expo selections were held on 16 May 2026 at Phutini High School in Loskop. Despite the chilly Drakensberg weather, dedicated young scientists gathered on a Saturday to proudly present their research projects to District Expo Selectors.

The event showcased the resilience, creativity, and determination of learners who are passionate about science, innovation, and problem-solving.

Well done to all participants for their hard work and commitment throughout the selection process. We wish every learner the very best as they continue their Eskom Expo journey.

The Eskom Expo NKZN (Elandslaagte) District Expo selections were held on 14 May 2026 at Mashobane Secondary School. Learners from surrounding areas gathered to present their research projects as part of the selection process for the Regional Science Fair taking place in August in Newcastle.

The event provided young scientists with the opportunity to showcase their innovation, scientific thinking, and problem-solving skills while receiving valuable feedback from selectors.

The Eskom Expo NKZN (Bergville) District Expo selections, held on 12 May 2026, welcomed 28 enthusiastic learners who proudly presented their research projects to District Expo Selectors.

The event gave learners the opportunity to showcase their scientific thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills while receiving valuable feedback to help strengthen their projects for the next stage of the competition.

The Eskom Expo NKZN (Madadeni) District Expo was proud to welcome the newly established Musa Khubeka School of Engineering to this year’s event. It was inspiring to engage with these enthusiastic Grade 8 future engineers and scientists as they showcased their curiosity, creativity, and passion for STEMI.

A sincere thank you as well to Bethamoya High School, Mzilikazi High School, and Kethokuhle Primary School for participating and contributing to a successful and engaging District Expo.
