Fascinating and robust syphons in action during flood conditions. Mockes Dam has an upstream catchment of approximately 2000 square kilometres. The high siltation is evident of inland rivers in Central South Africa.

The Mockes Dam on the Modder River discharges water through a well designed syphoning system. These syphons are currently discharging at full capacity. Turn up the sound to experience the air intakes in action.

Krugersdrift dam is currently overflowing.

It is located on the Modder river in central South Africa with a capacity of 73 million cubic metres. It was built in 1970 with a total wall lenght of almost 5km and a wall height of 25m. The large catchment area of 6300 km2 is well saturated and runoff significant for this time of the year. The arch gravity dam performs very well. # #
