Our little ones had a hopping good time at Jurong Frog Farm!

They were introduced to the American bullfrogs, saw how tiny eggs could grow into tadpoles, and discovered how these little creatures transform to adulthood. The highlight was getting to hold the frogs! While some were quick to reach out, others took a little more time before giving it a try.

Real-life experiences like these give children the chance to be curious, ask questions and discover the world around them in a way that feels relatable. Because sometimes, the best way to learn about something is to get up close and personal!

There’s a lot more to being a preschool teacher than telling stories and engaging in craft work. The job is physically demanding, in more ways that you realise.

At this year’s annual Townhall, our educators put their strength, stamina, speed and reflexes to the test with our very own fitness race, “Are You Fit Enough for School?” Teams from different Star Learners centres went head-to-head across five stations and oh boy, were they all gunning for the attractive prizes!

So… are they truly fit enough for school? Seeing how quick and strong most were, we think they passed the test with flying colours!

It all started with a tiny caterpillar in the classroom. Over the days that followed, our little ones watched closely as it transformed, put down on paper what they observed, and learnt about each of its life stage along the way.

Then came what they had been waiting for: the day their caterpillar morphed into a butterfly. With one last look, they set their beautiful new friend free, as they took home the special memory of watching its glow up!

Inspired by “Not a Box” by Antoinette Portis, our little ones were given cardboard boxes and one big invitation: This is not a box. It’s a…

For some, it became a rocket ready for take-off. For others, it transformed into a cosy little house. With no right or wrong answer, each child was free to follow their imagination and see where it led them.

It is through open-ended play that children learn to look at the familiar in new ways, ask questions, and explore possibilities. Sometimes, all it takes is a little curiosity to see that a box can be so much more!

PART THREE: BEYOND ABILITIES

This year, our annual Star Project encouraged our children to step outside the familiar, see things from different perspectives and find new ways to connect with others. For some of our children, that meant building friendships Beyond Abilities and discovering new ways to connect with children who move, learn and experience the world differently.

In our final post of the series, we share how our children explored what it means to understand, include and connect with others. Through shared experiences, they discovered that while we may experience the world differently, there are always ways for us to connect and be friends.

Across the three parts of our Star Project, our children connected with friends beyond their classrooms, connected beyond our borders and explored friendships beyond differences in abilities. Each experience gave them a chance to step outside what was familiar, ask questions, see things from another perspective and discover more about the people around them.

As we close this year’s series, we hope these stories have given you a glimpse of the curiosity, empathy and openness our children carry with them beyond the classroom, and beyond school too.

This Teachers’ Day, we celebrate the educators who make our children feel safe enough to try, brave enough to grow, and confident enough to find their own way.

PART TWO: BEYOND BORDERS

This year, our Star Project titled “Beyond” encouraged our children to look beyond what they already know, explore new perspectives and discover the world around them. For some of our children, that meant going Beyond Borders to discover what preschool life is like in other parts of the world.

Through video calls, letters, songs and shared activities, they got to know children from different countries and learn about the places they call home.

They explored landmarks, discovered new cultures and found out how their new friends learn, play and spend their days at school.

For our children, this was a chance to see the world through different lenses. They realised that while schools and traditions may look different beyond borders, there can be so many similarities too!

Whoever said you have to be big to make a difference?

As part of this year's Start Small Dream Big (SSDB) project, one of our centres partnered with the Singapore Red Cross () for a series of experiences that showed our little ones how small acts of care can make a difference.

They met the Red Cross Junior mascot, learnt about empathy and caring for others, and even got to try their hand at basic first aid and bandaging. At the Red Cross Campsite, they also took on the Humanitarian Trail, working through interactive stations that challenged them to think, problem-solve and work together.

Through these experiences, our children learnt that helping others can often start with something as simple as caring and looking out for the people around us.

PART ONE: BEYOND THEIR CLASSROOMS

This year’s Star Project, “Beyond”, invited our children to look beyond what they already know and discover new possibilities through meaningful experiences.
We started with a simple question: Are there other Star Learners centres out there?

And so, across our centres, our children connected with one another by exchanging letters, designing games and sharing their favourite corners of their schools.

What started as a simple exchange became a chance to make new friends, learn about one another and have fun connecting with children from another Star Learners centre.

And this was just the beginning. Stay tuned for Part Two!

Every day, our children learn alongside the same classmates, in the same classrooms and through familiar routines. But what happens when they step beyond what they know?

This year's Star Project, “Beyond”, invites our N2 to K2 children to do just that.

Star Project is an annual project that brings children across our centres together around one shared theme. Throughout the journey, they explore ideas through hands-on experiences, collaborate with others and discover that learning doesn't only happen within their own classroom.

This year, our children had the opportunity to connect with children from other Star Learners centres, preschools across Singapore and even schools overseas. They exchanged ideas, asked one another questions and caught a glimpse of how children in different places learn, play and experience the world.
