This is an irrefutable and eternal rule. However, many students don't realize that they are doing this! They hear the right note in their head and so they "fix it" and carry on AS IF NOTHING HAPPENED! But - your brain heard the wrong note and you can't undo that. Now uncertainty has entered the picture along with the finger misstep that caused it but is not being addressed. Students, you are the boss of your fingers! Do not allow yourself to make a mistake. I can promise you that if you're making a mistake, you're the one doing it. Don't accept it. The uncertainty that it causes will almost insure that you never either memorize the piece or play it well. I want more for you.
