Rohini has beautifully written down a few lines in response to her master class at Brindar...
" gracefulness, elegance, and respect is everything about Debashree, about Ranan. Dancing with Debashree, one on one, during the 7-day master class wad trully a spiritual and emotional journey for me. A short phone call with Debashree, turned into a connection of respect for one another as friends, as artists. I was originally a Kathak dancer, but overtime had ventured into other forms as well. I has lost touch with Kathak, and i needed that back. I wanted to stabilize my life in all areas, and by going back to my roots, going back to Kathak seemed to be the logical and heartfelt answer for me.
In this short time, Debashree had trained me in 'bols', 'thumris', 'abhinay' (expression) and 'ladhi' (footwork) to strengthen my foundation. What i love about Debashree is her sincere love for Kathak, for the art in itself and i could feel it in each class with her. She did not force 'her way' or limit my belief to a 'right way'. Instead, she made be believe to trust my own style and meak Kathak my own part. 'mayur ka aang bol' alongwith others made me enjoy how my own hands, wrists and body flowed with the feel of music and dance. For quite some time, i was lost in the character i was playing. It was as if, i had become a peacock dancing , or little Krishna stealing butter, or Radha, dancing for my love....
Alongside, learning the technicalities of Kathak, i had also explored 'abhinay'. Learning from Debashree was simply wonderful!! Watching her dance was a completely different sensation altogether. I can get lost in her expressions, elegance, and firmness when she moves and even when she is still. Debashree has an everlasting glow in herself and her eyes , that glimmers when she talks, teaches and especially when she dances. I could see the same reflection in her students as well when I had an opportunity to dance with them.
Having spent my childhood in Kolkata, i would have loved if Brindar, Ranan had been a part of my life earlier; however, i am happy to have had this opportunity in the right time of my life! As a friend, Debashree understood why i needed to revisit Kathak, and guided to find it within myself. She has opened my mind to create and practice Kathak as my own language, which was one of the first things Debashree had told me, that Kathak was HER language. I am happy to have joined the Brindar-Ranan family."
