Logical fallacies are extremely important to understand, because no matter how awesome you think you are, and how much you think you can avoid them. You can't. You're still probably awesome though ^.~
It's no fun to think that you're not so good at logically thinking, but it's true. The human brain isn't exactly good at it from the get go. Learning this, understanding it, and knowing how to combat it will help you become truly skeptical and allow you to view the world in a scientific way.
What logical fallacies do you know of?
Are you fooling yourself? Probably - even an honest person is a master of self-deception. Here's how to stop (more here: bit.ly/1Mi1MBq) Add your own...

Let's talk pot. We've heard the claims that it cures cancer, but does it really? Well, there's absolutely zero evidence for the claim that it cures any of the many types of cancer. As a side note, there's zero evidence that there would be anything that could cure all cancers.
That's not to say there's nothing it's good for, but let's keep it scientific and rational.

This is an awesome article. It is very detailed. It explains the details of the animal testing, and yes, there are conversations to be had about animal testing, but this particular thread isn't it please. This is about the antioxidants. I'm happy to set up another thread about animal testing if anybody wants.

This is not a mean shirt, at all. Science is a method of finding out what is real. Beliefs do not matter. Beliefs and claims can absolutely lead to good hypothesis. Those claims that can't be tested, should be ignored (this does not mean they are proven wrong, it means it's not worth your time, until a time in which that claim can be tested). The hypothesis that can be tested, should be. If it's proven wrong, discard it, if it's proven correct, retest it. Have someone else retest it. Have it peer reviewed, test again. The goal is to falsify the claim. If the claim (hypothesis) can not be falsified after many tests and peer review, then it is most likely true. The more you think your belief or claim is true, the more skeptical you should be.

Critical thinking and skepticism are skills that need to be taught. How do you teach your children to think critically and skeptically?
