imagine 2026 is organized as a journey from principle to practice.

Policy, Research, & Practice connects global frameworks, evidence, and clinical decision-making—including consent, assent, dissent, and children’s verbal and nonverbal responses.

Children’s Voices presents work developed with children, showing how music, movement, visual expression, turn-taking, and shared timing become forms of communication and influence.

Discover Music Therapy introduces resources created for children to make participation accessible and meaningful. Reflections gathers experienced clinicians on observation, responsiveness, and flexibility, while Global View situates early childhood music therapy across 27 countries.

The World Café Hackathon then asks how shared knowledge can move toward collective action.

Together, these sections do more than describe participation. They examine how to recognize it, support it, and act upon it.

A Community of Voices

Thirty years of imagine represent far more than a collection of publications.

They reflect the generosity of an international community of authors, reviewers, colleagues, former students, artists, designers, and institutional partners who have shared their expertise, creativity, and encouragement over three decades.

There is an important difference between creating music therapy for children and creating it with them.

Grounded in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, imagine 2026 recognizes young children as rights-holders whose voices may be expressed through sound, movement, play, gesture, and relationship.

This issue explores how music therapy can move children’s rights from principle into everyday practice.

Yesterday, the imagine editorial team came together for one final meeting before the release of imagine 2026—and we are ready to go! ✨

Final quality checks: complete.
Team approval: unanimous.
Website and Open Access details: reviewed.
Release plans: in place.

Behind those few lines are approximately 500 volunteer hours contributed by our team to bring imagine 2026 from ideas and manuscripts to a fully edited, interactive, Open Access publication.
That means hundreds of hours of reading, reviewing, revising, copyediting, checking references and links, preparing multimedia, testing the website, discussing details, solving problems, and asking one question over and over: How can we make this issue the best possible resource for our community?
