ASQA Update | Assessment Validation Under the 2025 RTO Standards

Since 1 July 2025, ASQA expects RTOs to adopt a risk-based, statistically valid approach for validating assessments.

Key points to remember:

Every training product must be validated at least once every five years; more often if risks arise

Use ASQA’s Sample Size Calculator to guide how many assessments to validate

Validators must be independent of the assessments they review

Assessment tools must undergo pre-validation before use (Standard 1.3)

Validation isn’t a “tick the box” exercise — findings must drive continuous improvement
