๐ŸŒธ Amazing what can happen when you stop for a chat...

Today, Chris and I were watering the community planter outside the Parish Council offices when a lovely neighbour stopped to talk to us.

The first thing she said was how beautiful the flowers looked and how lovely it was to see the planter full of colour.

She went on to say that she'd often thought about doing something for the community herself but, like so many of us, life had got busy and she'd just never got round to it.

That conversation reminded me of something important...

People want to help.

They just need someone to take the first step.

Before long, we were chatting about ideas for the future โ€“ bringing people together for a community morning with tea, coffee and cake, painting benches, planting flowers, creating a watering rota and working together to keep our village looking beautiful.

It wasn't a planned meeting.

It wasn't on an agenda.

It was simply a conversation between neighbours.

Sometimes that's exactly where the best community ideas begin.

At Thrive Together Community CIC, we believe communities grow when people come together, share ideas and realise that everyone has something valuable to contribute.

Who knows where today's conversation might lead? ๐ŸŒฑ

๐Ÿ’š Together we grow: empowering resilience, inspiring growth.

Have you ever thought, "I'd love to do something for the community"? We'd love to hear your ideas in the comments.

This week marks Knife Crime Awareness Week โ€” an important reminder that behind every statistic is a young person, a family, a friendship group, and a community affected by choices that can change lives forever.

At Thrive Together Community CIC, we believe prevention starts with conversation.

We mustn't simply tell young people what not to do, but also take the time to listen and understand why some feel that carrying a knife is acceptable, necessary, or linked to fear, pressure, protection, belonging, or influence.

Young people need safe spaces where they feel able to speak openly without judgment.

Through our conversation-led workshops, community engagement, and educational resources, Thrive Together Community CIC works with schools, colleges, universities, youth groups, and community organisations to encourage honest conversations around:
โ€ข peer pressure
โ€ข fear and safety
โ€ข emotional wellbeing
โ€ข resilience
โ€ข consequences
โ€ข confidence and belonging
โ€ข making safer choices

Our educational workbook, Knives Take Lives โ€“ Finding Safer Paths, is also available on Amazon as part of our wider preventive education resources. https://www.amazon.com/author/kathygrubb

As it is Mental Health Awareness week and Knife Crime Awareness Week approachโ€™s, it is important to remember that behind many struggles are young people trying to cope with pressure, fear, anxiety, isolation, trauma, or the need to feel accepted.

At Thrive Together Community CIC, we believe prevention starts with conversation, connection, and creating safe spaces where people feel heard without judgment.

Through our workshops, educational resources, and community engagement work, we support conversations around:
โ€ข emotional wellbeing
โ€ข resilience
โ€ข peer pressure
โ€ข bullying
โ€ข safer choices
โ€ข confidence
โ€ข belonging
โ€ข mental health support

Our work is not about frightening young people.

It is about helping them feel supported, valued, and able to speak openly before situations escalate.

Alongside our work with schools, colleges, universities, and youth groups, we continue to build wider community connections that encourage inclusion, support, and wellbeing for all ages.

Together we grow. Together we support safer and stronger communities.

BUILD UP TO KNIFE CRIME AWARENESS WEEK

The Knife Angel, currently standing in Newark, is a powerful reminder of the devastating impact knife crime has on families and communities.

At Thrive Together Community CIC, we believe prevention starts with conversation.

Through our Knives Take Lives workshops and resources, we work with:

schools
colleges
universities
youth groups
community organisations

to create safe spaces where young people can talk openly about:

peer pressure
consequences
fear
belonging
mental health
choices
resilience

These are not lectures.

They are real conversations designed to help young people feel heard, supported, and empowered before situations escalate.

Knife Crime Awareness Week runs from 18th to 24th May, and weโ€™ll be sharing more about our preventative work across Nottinghamshire and beyond over the coming weeks.

Together we grow. Together we protect futures.
