Kim's Academy ACTA, was founded in 1976 by Grandmaster In Mook Kim. Since then ACTA grew and spread all around the country.

The Minnesota branch was founded in 1986 in Eden Prairie. We now operate out of the Chanhassen Rec Center. The American Chung Do Kwan Tae Kwon Do Association, or
ACTA, was founded in 1976 by Grandmaster In Mook Kim. He is also the founder of Kim's Academy. Since then ACTA has grown and spread all around the country. The Minnesota locations were started in 1986 in Eden Prairie Minnesota. Today we have four club locations in Chanhassen and Eden Prairie. The ACTA is committed to providing its members with and
in-depth education of Chung Do Kwon Tae Kwon Do. We believe in teaching the art of Tae Kwon Do by focusing on how the mind, body, and spirit contribute to practicing this ancient martial art. Our Minnesota schools, as with all the ACTA locations, implement a unique plan in order to preserve the art of Tae Kwon Do and create well-rounded martial artists. Our curriculum includes training in the philosophy and history of Tae Kwon Do as well as the physical techniques. We pride ourselves in the ability to help our students succeed. In order to do so we make sure our instructors are well-trained in the art of teaching.

July through September gave us demos, testing, new students, harder techniques, and a lot of really good moments in between.

White belt one-steps may not be the flashiest thing we do, but they teach so much: distance, balance, coordination, control, and how to work safely with a partner.

These are the building blocks we keep coming back to.

Black belts get to do some very fun things. 😄

They also spend a lot of time practicing the same basics they learned as white belts. The techniques get harder, but strong fundamentals still matter.

Regional testing is this weekend! Everyone testing has already done the hardest part: showing up for class, practicing the same things again and again, and continuing to work when something was not clicking.

This photo is a great example of why we practice both offense and defense. One student found the opening for a round kick. The other saw it coming and got the block up.

Sparring moves fast. These decisions happen in a split second.

Two different self-defense moments from the last testing. In one, students are using their striking skills to stop an attacker. In the other, they are using balance and leverage to complete a takedown.

The techniques look different, but both depend on staying calm and knowing what comes next.

This face says everything. Board breaking is equal parts technique, nerves, and excitement. There is nothing quite like the moment the board finally gives way.

We have students of different ages, ranks, and experience levels, but everyone starts in the same place: learning the basics and trying again when something does not work the first time.

We are pretty lucky to have this group.
