Kim's ACTA Tae Kwon Do - Minnesota Kim's Academy ACTA, was founded in 1976 by Grandmaster In Mook Kim. Since then ACTA grew and spread all around the country.

The Minnesota branch was founded in 1986 in Eden Prairie. We now operate out of the Chanhassen Rec Center. The American Chung Do Kwan Tae Kwon Do Association, or
ACTA, was founded in 1976 by Grandmaster In Mook Kim. He is also the founder of Kim's Academy. Since then ACTA has grown and spread all around the country. The Minnesota locations were started in 1986 in Eden Prairie Minnesota. Today we h

ave four club locations in Chanhassen and Eden Prairie. The ACTA is committed to providing its members with and
in-depth education of Chung Do Kwon Tae Kwon Do. We believe in teaching the art of Tae Kwon Do by focusing on how the mind, body, and spirit contribute to practicing this ancient martial art. Our Minnesota schools, as with all the ACTA locations, implement a unique plan in order to preserve the art of Tae Kwon Do and create well-rounded martial artists. Our curriculum includes training in the philosophy and history of Tae Kwon Do as well as the physical techniques. We pride ourselves in the ability to help our students succeed. In order to do so we make sure our instructors are well-trained in the art of teaching.

School is starting up again soon, which means everyone is getting used to routines, schedules, and tired brains. Tae Kwon Do gives kids a place to move their bodies, reset, and focus on one thing at a time.

Also, look at that stance. 👏

Flying side kick caught at exactly the right moment.

This is one of those techniques that takes many attempts before it starts to feel natural. The height is fun, but I am just as impressed by the strong chamber on that back leg

Sparring can look intimidating from the outside, but in class it’s one of the ways students learn control, confidence, and composure.

They practice staying calm, protecting themselves, respecting their partner, and trying again when something doesn’t go perfectly.

That’s the kind of confidence that carries over into daily life too.

Students learn a lot by watching.

That’s why it matters that our instructors keep training, learning, and challenging themselves too. We want students to see that growth doesn’t stop when you earn a black belt.

A fun moment with Sr. Master Pederson from our Chanhassen Festival demo back in July.

One of the things we love about self-defense practice is that it gives students a chance to think on their feet.

They’re not just memorizing what to do. They’re practicing awareness, balance, control, and confidence in a safe environment.

Not every win is a new belt or a big milestone. Sometimes it’s jumping a little higher, landing a little better, or trying something that felt scary last week.

That counts too.

Nobody ages out of ACTA. ❤️

Mr. Wermager, a 3rd Dan black belt, and Ms. Gerken, a 1st Dan black belt, are both home from college for the summer. We’re grateful they came back to help with our July demo and, naturally, we put them to work breaking boards!

One of my favorite things about ACTA is that students grow up and head in different directions, but they are still part of this community. They come back to train, help, teach, cheer each other on, and support the students coming up behind them.

They’ll be heading back to college soon, but they’ll always have a place here.

Sparring is about learning distance, timing, movement, control, and making good decisions under pressure.

Those skills take patience to build, and every round is another chance to improve.

These two were working through their one-steps at our last testing. At this stage, there is a lot to remember: where to step, which hand moves, how far away your partner is, and how to finish in a good stance.

It may look simple from the sidelines, but their brains and bodies are working hard.
