FUTA Students Shine at Deep Learning Indaba 2025 in Rwanda

FUTA has once again proven its strength in technology and innovation! 🎉 At the Deep Learning Indaba 2025 Community Challenge in Kigali, Rwanda, FUTA’s student team — DSN AI+ FUTA — clinched 3rd place and a $1,000 prize with their project CLEANSIGHT, an AI-powered platform that verifies cleanups, rewards participation, and maps waste hotspots.

Presented by Oluwaferanmi Oladepo (400L, ICE) and developed alongside Nunsi Shiaki (400L, CPE), Godswill Amos (200L, CPE), and final-year Computer Science students Abisoye Durojaiye and Agbaje Ayomipo, CLEANSIGHT stood out among 130+ submissions across Africa, landing FUTA a podium spot among the top five finalists.

The Deep Learning Indaba is Africa’s biggest annual AI gathering, attracting leading researchers, innovators, and students. For FUTA to emerge among the top three projects is not just a win for the team, but a defining moment for the University and Nigeria — showcasing FUTA as a rising hub for world-class innovation and AI research.
