Loughton Wado-Kai Karate Club

The club is afiliated to England Wado-Kai Karate-Do Renmei. The club instructor is Sensei Jason Walton 4th Dan, Black Belt.

Founded in 2014, a family friendly local Wado-Kai karate club that welcomes new members from ages 6 upwards as beginners or as a higher grade from other Wado clubs. If you are interested in taking up Wado-Kai Karate, Loughton Wado-Kai Karate Club offers a FREE first lesson to all new students. All you need to start are some comfortable clothes (tracksuit and t-shirt) and bring a bottle of water.

Last training session of the summer term. We will be back on Wednesday 9th September at Roding Valley High School, usual time 6.30pm-7.30pm.

In this final summer session we managed to get through Ohyo Kumite 1-7, and for some of the students this was their first time having a go at Ohyo 5-7.

Congratulations to one of my students who successfully graded to brown belt yesterday at the England Wado-Kai Late Summer Course under examination by England Wado-Kai Chief Instructor, Sensei Barry Wilkinson 8th Dan. He will now be my Senpai (assistant) for the club.

We have had a good weekend over in Sandhurst at our England Wado-Kai Summer course with a turn-out of almost 50 students. We had a Dan Grading for one of our associations brown belts and he passed after taking a written theory examination followed by a practical examination under scrutiny from 2 of our senior Instructors and our associations chief instructor, Sensei Barry Wilkinson 8th Dan. For those other students that also passed, congratulations and to those that failed, this is just a small step-back and there will be more opportunities in the future and this will help you grown even better as a karateka.

Finally got round to framing the ink and watercolour sketch that I have done of me doing some karate in a Ryokan in Hakone, Japan, 2023. (Excuse the glare of me in the glass!).

Very proud of these two students of mine. Having competed in their first ever karate competition they came home with 5 medals between them. Having trained this evening they wanted to show off their medals to my other students, and they have both said they can’t wait to compete again!

Yesterday we had a fantastic day at the England Wado-Kai Karate Invitational Kata Competition. Loughton’s instructor, Sensei Jason was part of the Judge/Referee delegation and our club had 2 students enter the competition. Between the 2 of them they have brought home 5 medals to Loughton. We have trained over the last couple of months for this day and all their hard work in training has paid off. The competition had competitors from England, Wales, Belgium, Hungary and Austria so there was some strong competition.

Two of our Loughton students will be competing in this upcoming England Wado-Kai Kata Competition, which takes place at Sandhurst Sports Centre on Sunday 11th May.

Great teaching session this evening, and we extended the class and did half an hour of kata competition practice and showing the students how they work and how the judges score with the flags etc.
