Public Health and Transportation in Lowndes County, Georgia

Please help the city of Valdosta and VSU to better serve the needs of parents and children:

Valdosta State University’s Urban Community Planning class is gathering input from local parents (with children ages 6-18) about health and transportation. Please take a few minutes to fill out a short and anonymous survey. Your answers are confidential.

The survey will help the city and VSU to provide better service to our local parents and children.

At the end of this survey you will be eligible for prize drawings (i.e. VSU athletic tickets, VSU tote bags, VSU water bottles, VSU sunglasses, and VSU pens).

If you have any questions, please contact Dr. Lu at [email protected]. Thank you for your participation!

Meet Sarah Wells, a new Geoscience major from Thomasville, Georgia. Sarah explains, "I took a Geology class for credit, and I had no idea I would really enjoy it. I decided to take another Geology class before I changed my major, just to make sure I wanted to continue this field of study…the second class turned out to be even more interesting. So then I talked to my professor and some students majoring in Geosciences, [and] they gave me the information I was looking for and really encouraged me to change my major and join the Geoscience Student Society, which has helped me meet others studying geoscience. I am not sure exactly what I want to do with this major, but I know there are lots of possibilities and options. I really look forward to figuring out exactly where this will take me."

Please join us in welcoming Sarah to the Geosciences Department!

Sarah Wells, a sophomore environmental geosciences major from Thomasville, Georgia, chose Valdosta State University because it was a familiar place that was not far from home. “The campus was one thing that really drew me in,” she said. “I love how beautiful it is…how easy it is to get from class to class, and how friendly the professors and other students are.”

Wells said that environmental geosciences was not her first major of choice at VSU. “…I knew VSU had really good programs,” the 19-year-old said. “I took a geology class for credit, and I had no idea I would really enjoy it. I really look forward to figuring out exactly where this will take me.

“I am glad I chose VSU…I was able to find an excellent education in a university that is much more individualized and not overwhelmingly large. I may have been a little lost when I came here, but VSU helped me find my way.”

VSU wishes you the best of success, Sarah!
