Goooood morning greenies! Today is Water Day, our second day of Earth Week! 🌏💧

Water allows us to live. It is one of Earth’s most precious gifts, and it’s up to us to protect it. Through water conservation, we can save energy, money, and our planet’s natural habitats.🐋

In the past couple of years, our city has made amazing progress in terms of water conservation efforts and programs.

Calwater offers free conservation kits (with showeheads, one hose nozzle, toilet leak tablets, and more!), while their conservation programs saved residents 10 million gallons of water!

BUT, there is still work to be done! 40 states are anticipating water shortages by 2024, and by 2025, an estimated 1.8 billion people will live in areas of extreme water scarcity. Visit our page to read how you can help! 👆

What can we do at home, and individually?

1. Calculate your water footprint on watercalculator.org. It measures both your direct and indirect water usage, and provides tips on how to reduce your usage. 👣
2. Take a look at these suggestions and see what changes YOU can implement in your daily life! (They’re sorted into BIG and SMALL changes, both worth taking a look!)

How do these changes help?

🌱 Changing watering habits/landscaping: Landscaping is more than half of domestic water use in our area!
🥩Reducing meat consumption: ~30% of freshwater is used for animal agriculture!
💧 Using a front-loading dishwasher: it uses 1/3 of the water and less detergent than most top loading machines!

For more info, visit the websites on the second page!

Your challenge of the day is… to take a photo of yourself with your reusable water bottle + name one change (big OR small) that you’re going to make for the environment! 📸

Plastic bottles take about three times as much water to produce than they can actually hold, so using a reusable bottle makes a difference!

💚Don’t forget to use the hashtag and tag to be featured on our story :)

By living on this planet, we each carry a little bit of the responsibility to give back. We hope you take up on this challenge and continue to protect our planet through this week and beyond! Happy Water Day! 💧🌊

Before you take your shower everyday, think about how much water you are using! We can help save water, one drop, one person at a time, if we all stop for a moment and think about how we can change our daily actions to not waste water!
