OBIORA Nwakolobia – Agu aka Obiwon, Award-winning Gospel Artiste

Obiora Obiwon passion for music started developing as early as age 5, while singing along to HipHop and R'n'B records from his elder brother's Audio Cassette player. Obiwon most likely inherited his musical genes from his father, Sir Humphrey Nwokolobia-Agu, a renowned folk and classical music composer and arranger from Eastern Nigeria. At age 15 he went on to song writing and performing on the streets and corners of the “CoalCity”, finding himself balancing his passion for music and education. He graduated from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) in 2001 where he studied Agricultural Extension.

Obiwon made his solo major recording debut in 2006 with "Overture", resigning from the bank job shortly afterwards. The Overture album produced the classic hit ballad "Onyinye", and subsequently awarded him with the “Best Male Vocal Performance” at the HipHop World Awards and “Voice of the Decade” at the Nigerian Music Awards both in 2007, as well as several other nominations, rave reviews and accolades.

In 2008, Obiora Obiwon revealed he had undergone a faith-based transformation and experience, while announcing a full-time gospel music ministry to the whole industry and nation.

Recently Obiwon was honoured at the 2013 National Gospel Awards for his crossover act, an indication of the growing acceptance of his transition.

Morning Session at the Youth Leadership Summit 2016: Professional & Enterprise Track

The morning session will focus on professionalism with topics focused on employability and entrepreneurship.
This is informed by the current lethargy observed amongst young people in general especially those within the church. The recent social interventions such as YouWin, BoI Loans, and NYSC Entrepreneurship scheme have helped a great deal but also made young people somewhat dependent on financial loans as the only capital required to start enterprises.

On the flip side, despite recent developments, trends and case studies; young graduates focus on getting jobs before gaining employability skills. Many still dream of being lucky to gain employment in multinational corporations. Although this is not a bad dream, yet the slots available in comparison with the number of graduates and international students competing for the same opportunities.

The topics will explain the talent economy, highlighting skills employers require and basic attitudes and approaches to workplace dynamics and also explain that it takes more
than dreams and ideas to get jobs and start businesses.

Through case studies and real-life experiences, it is expected that participants will better manage their expectations and entitlement mentality.
