Information about the new Social Security Fairness Act. SS now has a webpage that will give us the latest information on how this new program is progressing. Hopefully the link in The Inside Line info below will take you to that site. Yay for finally getting this fixed for teachers, firemen and policemen in several states. It probably would not have happened without the tireless dedication of TRTA's Tim Lee. We owe him big time!!

Congratulations, members of the Texas Retired Teachers Association (TRTA)! Your hard work and dedication have paid off! Thanks to the thousands of hours our members and their supporters have put into promoting Proposition 9, 420,000 annuitants of the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) will receive their first cost-of-living adjustment since 2004—OR EVER!

Thank you for your efforts. We know many of you wrote letters to the editor of your local newspaper, posted Prop 9 signs in your yards, passed out informational cards, wore buttons and even made special t-shirts to support the amendment. You reached out to your family, friends, and neighbors and asked them to spread the word. You joined in our social media campaign, made phone calls, and sent texts.

Texas voters showed up to the polls and demonstrated their support for our devoted education professionals. Thank you for educating the general public about Prop 9, and ensuring that hundreds of thousands of TRS retirees received their COLAs.

TRTA President

Last Day of Early Voting!
Today, November 3, is the final day for early voting in the 2023 General Election. Members, if you haven’t gone to the polls to cast your ballot, GO TODAY and vote FOR Prop 9! Election Day is Tuesday, November 7! Avoid those long lines and visit your early polling location today!
According to this article, “After 10 days of early voting, fewer than 840,000 ballots have been cast, for a statewide turnout of 4.69%.”
We need EVERYONE to get to the polls and cast their vote! Please reach out to your family members, friends, and neighbors over the weekend, and remind them how important it is to vote in this constitutional amendment election! Send them a text or an email or give them a call. Let them know how few registered voters are deciding the fate of 14 statewide amendments.

Early Voting Continues this Week!

Prop 9 provides a cost-of-living increase to our Texas school employee retirees.

Prop 9 is fully funded and will not require a tax increase!

Prop 9 will help over 420,000 Texas seniors who depend on their Teacher retirement benefits, most of which have never been adjusted for inflation even during these difficult times.

Go vote and take your friends!!
