Thanks to great friends and good neighbors for helping us through no power. It took most of Sunday morning to get water to all the troughs! Huge shout out for Chelco for working nonstop and restoring our power yesterday! And Frost Lane Friends thank you for showing up, you all made for an amazing Monday at the Farm! Families came out spent the morning & afternoon exploring & enjoying some Fall weather! After no markets, u-pick harvest & 9th st market closure due to the hurricane. Your support meant more than you know. Now let’s do it again! The gates are open!

Thank you all for your prayers and concern as we weathered the storm. We truly feel blessed! Damage was minimal, the fruit held on tight, and our trees are safe. The orchard is at its peak, making the farm even more beautiful in the crisp fall air.

FROST LANE FRIENDS — IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT!

Our U-Pick farm is open today, Sunday, October 11, from 10:00 AM–5:00 PM!

We’ll also be at Farm to Fork in St. Andrews from 10:00 AM–2:00 PM, fully stocked with beef, pork, and persimmons.

9th St. Market has power restored and will be open from 10:00 AM–4:00 PM!

It’s was an eerie feeling at the farm this afternoon.

For the past two years, persimmon season has been a dry dust bowl, and we prayed daily for rain. This will be the first time since opening our orchards for U-Pick that we’ve had to close during peak harvest.

Please pray that the trees stand strong, the fruit holds on tight, and—if it does fall—it doesn’t take the branches with it. Most importantly, we hope everyone has a safe place to ride out Hurricane Isaias. Praying for Walton County and all the areas that are in the path of Isaias.

A glimpse into our cattle winter preparations:

300 bales of dry, barn-kept hay
200 bales of wrapped hay
One final cutting of perennial peanut hay still to be harvested.
Five lanes being overseeded with cereal rye, oats, and Big Boss Rye for our 2025 yearlings and 2026 weaned calves rotational grazing.
Larger pastures being over-seeded with Big Boss Rye for the main herd’s winter rotation.
Mineral tubs for all cattle to supplement the minerals lacking in winter hay.

Still cutting. Still seeding. Still preparing.

The hope is this feed will carry our herd through March 2027—then we’ll start preparing all over again for winter 2028.

WOW—this persimmon salsa is next-level! Sweet, crunchy, and absolutely delicious on its own, served with chips, or spooned over street tacos.

Ingredients

• 6 sweet, firm persimmons, chopped

• ½ red onion, chopped

• 1 jalapeño, finely chopped

• ½ cup fresh cilantro, chopped

• Juice of 1 lemon

• 3 tablespoons blood-orange-infused olive oil, available at 9th Street Market

• 2 tablespoons red w**e vinegar

• ½ tablespoon sugar or honey

Toss everything together, chill, and enjoy!

Not going to lie, this recipe changes almost every time I make it. But this is definitely one of my favorites. Simple & fresh!
