Check out this terrific -looking series of workshops from Monthly through the end of the year. Creative and knowledge workers drive new enterprise and innovation in urban and rural places alike. Arts openings, creative projects, meetups for designers and technical workers- all this drives informal "collisions" of ideas, new connections, and projects. These factors also represent a big component quality of life. When I go to arts events around the Eastern Sierra I see all walks of life, and especially a lot of young people hanging out having fun. Nice going ICOE!

Packed house for Bishop evening program here on a Tuesday early January. Lead forecaster Clancy Nelson gave a great preso. Winter decided to show up over the holidays.... Eastern Sierra Avalanche Center keeps us safe and thinking. Thanks guys.

I ran into and two of his biggest fans today I got to eat my terrific Pastrami sandwich and learn about the latest fishing news on the Owens- Tuesday talks with Fred Rowe, every? or most Tuesdays? A real Bishop experience. Fred is a great marketer. Check it out. Thanks man!

Scenes from This is Temporary opening in Bishop . I saw paintings, mixed media pieces, video installations and met some new people. There's a lot of cool art events around here. I enjoyed getting to tour the Project Room and learning about Bruce Licher's history there on Willow Street. He's got a printing business and a record label ... Of course Wok held court in the tea room....

Sharing along with other great CTE programs at the Cerro Coso workforce summit today at the Mammoth campus. We are learning about CTE pathways in allied health, IT and Cybersecurity, addiction studies, paralegal, child development. Peter's and Public Safety outdoor rec and wildland fire programs launched with some early success and good commentary on intersection with our economic development strategy Sierra Jobs First

Had a great evening attending a gathering that featured natural resources and food systems folks at the Blue Heron a wonderful new company - farm starting in Wilkerson area on what was formerly the Apple Hill near Bishop. Rachel and her team are creating a buzz around local food and there's lots to look forward to here. were in attendance .... so was the Eastern Sierra's Master Gardner. Wow what a great event let's do it again soon. So many cool things happening in the Eastern Sierra.

Our team put together another successful 4H poster presentation Day in Bishop! I was able to serve as a judge for the presentations. We heard poems by Shel Silverstein, craft how-tos, cooking instructions, and a violin performance. They were all terrific! In the second of three blogs on rural Main Street revitalization, I surveyed community strategies nationally and in California: the role of downtown associations, the Main Street America program, and entrepreneurship training in revitalization efforts.

I read through the policy and management literature and interviewed experts in the field. Three more key findings emerged:

4. Community-driven downtown associations are often the driving force behind revitalization.

5. The Main Street America program has been a valuable framework and network to elevate local efforts and secure funding.

6. Connecting entrepreneurship training to revitalization efforts proved successful in several rural communities.

It was an exciting week for Inyo County. The Planning Department led a series of infill housing development workshops and the region kicked off a regional housing needs assessment with ESCOG BAE and other stakeholders.

Next week is a big week for housing and infill development in the Eastern Sierra. Inyo County hosting infill workshops and ESCOG hosting a workshop on the regional housing needs assessment.

Inyo County is hosting several community workshops on infill development, looking at zoning and General Plan guidelines for Big Pine, Independence, and Lone Pine. There are community workshops in each of those places Tu, W, and Th. There's a community survey at the Inyo County planning department office website.
