Today, the American Corner Mzuzu successfully conducted a graduation ceremony for 20 women police officers who completed a Basic Computer Training under the Women Police Network. All participants were awarded certificates of attendance after successfully completing the training which started on 24th March 2026.

The Guest of Honour, Associate Professor Gift Dube, represented the University Librarian and commended the participants for their dedication. The event was also covered by a reporter from the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation.

In a show of appreciation, the police officers expressed their gratitude to the US Embassy and Mzuzu University for the opportunity. They also presented appreciation gifts to the facilitator Mr Allan Kanyundo, the Coordinator Mr Levison Mpinganjira, Chief Computer Technician Ms Hamida Rajab, and Senior Computer Technician Mr Mwai Mchuchu for their tireless support.

The training has empowered the officers with essential computer skills that will enhance their work and service delivery.

Mzuzu University Library organized an in-house Library Marketing Training for its staff from 17th to 18th February 2026 at the American Corner. The two‑day training focused on boosting the library’s promotional skills and online presence through practical applications of AI and non AI tools in marketing strategies.

The in‑house training was facilitated by Mzuzu University’s versatile Graphic Designer, Chris Ngalu. Library staff were guided in online video editing, creation of visuals and designing of posters and fliers using AI tools like Capcut, Shortcut, Grok and Canva, equipping staff with new techniques to enhance library outreach.

Mzuzu University Library and Learning Resources Centre says the library is the backbone of any university, as it collects, organizes and disseminates knowledge.

The University Librarian, Dr Aubrey Chaputula, made the remarks on Saturday evening in Mzuzu during an end-of-year and team-building function organized by the department.

Representing the Vice Chancellor, Dean of the Faculty of Tourism, Hospitality and Management, Dr Lameck Zetu Khonje, said the library department plays a critical role in the university's strategic plan of unlocking its full potential.

Khonje added that it is the institution's dream to become a University 5.0 by 2030, and that the library contributes significantly to this vision by fostering innovation and academic excellence.

During the event, the department recognized outstanding staff, with Francis Munthali named Library Employee and Assistant of the Year, while Mwayi Mchunchu received the Computer Technician of the Year award.

MZUZU UNIVERSITY CHILDREN’S LIBRARY CONDUCTS CULTURAL OPEN DAY

Mzuzu University Children's Library successfully conducted a Cultural Open today at CODeL grounds on Friday 7 November, 2025. The event that was held under the theme: Celebrating children’s creativity and diversity, was deemed a big success.

The event was attended by Primary school learners from Mzuzu Demonstration, St Augustine and Viyele schools including St John of God. Among the dignitaries that attended the event are representative of the District Education Manager, Primary Education Advisors, teachers, parents, Director of CODeL and other Mzuzu University staff and students.

The learners performed various acts and traditional dances that mesmerized the audience. These include Vumbuza, Ingoma, career displays, and others. There were also various displays in form of art works, books and drawings made by learners.

Speaking during the event, University Librarian Aubrey Chaputula, expressed delight at the successful hosting of the event indicating that this was part of the University’s mission of reaching out to the people in the community in which it is operating in. He revealed that Mzuzu University community is contributing a lot to the success of the University by among other offering accommodation to its students, and also providing a community of practice to its staff and students. This is why the University feels obliged to reciprocate this good gesture.

MZUZU UNIVERSITY LIBRARY HOSTS SUCCESSFUL WORKSHOP ON AI, SOCIAL MEDIA, AND CREATIVE AUTOMATION

Mzuzu University Library and Learning Resources Centre conducted a successful workshop on "Leveraging Artificial Intelligence, Social Media, and Creative Automation" from August 25th to 28th, 2025. The workshop, opened by University Librarian Associate Professor Aubrey Chaputula, covered various topics such as content automation, AI image and sound generation, video marketing with AI and strategies for increasing brand engagement in the digital age.
Facilitated by Mzuni staff members Christopher Ngalu and Gift Kandul0, the workshop provided participants with hands-on experience and practical skills in leveraging AI and creative automation in marketing. Participants praised the event for its valuable insights and empowering content, with one attendee expressing gratitude to Mzuzu University Library for organizing the workshop, which equipped them with modern marketing skills using artificial intelligence.
In her closing remarks, Mrs. Lizzie Malemia, the Library's Reader Services Librarian, thanked the participants, facilitators, and organizers on behalf of the University Librarian, emphasizing the importance of embracing technology and innovation in the digital landscape. Mr. Kanyundo the coordinator for the Workshops at Mzuzu University Library commended participants for their hardworking spirit to grasp the content of the Workshop and asked them to use the skills they had learnt at their workplaces.
The workshop's success has prompted suggestions that Mzuzu University Library consider extending this training to other groups, including public relations associations, information officers and professionals in information-related fields.
