Spent the week with my sons. Drove a few thousand miles. Substituted hikes and pushups for working out.
Big concern was...how do I wear on the road and keep my blood pressure gains. Easy enough. If no good alternative was available I just didn't eat. Squeezed in a good 24 hour fast at one point. Result? Healthy BP and ...STILL NO SNORING. which is weird but I'll take it.
Non-processed food for the win...even on the road.

A question from another page. Why do forms? I read through the answers with some sadness. People gave their answers. Biomechanics, fighting techniques, health etc.
I think the notion that you can learn to fight from a form is nonsense...the other reasons listed...well, okay.
For me it is a different reason entirely.
Imagine living on the rim of the Grand Canyon...each dawn and each sunset you sit on your favorite rock and watch the colors and the shadows play on the canyon walls. On occasion an elk walks by or an eagle soars overhead...see the lizard dart from shelter to shelter... would you ever be bored? No. Endlessly fascinating, awe inspiring, humility inducing and peace...even watching lightning dance across the sky and hearing the thunderous bass rumble and bounce...the fat splat tapping of raindrops on the dirt building to a crescendo then leaving and leaving behind that smell...that post rain wash smell.
For me, practicing the form is this way and I am the canyon and the rain and the seasons past and passing. A familiar landscape brand new each day.
Austin Systema and Tai Chi is evolving.
In order to present a more accurate picture of the two methods of training I currently offer, myself and Amy Imes have created a new entity called Water Way Tai Chi.
Now a person looking for taijiquan won't look at my school and see images of people being thrown to the ground and punched in the face😊 and people looking for Systema won't imagine that they will escape rasslin and pushups and being thrown to the ground and punched in the face.

Well it isn't dirt but it'll do.
Heading back to the city. The desert is always good to me.
Once in Huashan I didn't want to leave, once in meditation I wanted to stay, each time in the desert some impatience is burned away and the peaceful have told me...it's not your cave. It's the road for you, live, shar your knowledge,support and return when you can, to wash, to sit, to burn away nonessential until what is left is who you are.
