Harrison College 4 The Alleyne School 1

The HC Under 19 Boys Football Team today, at the Harrison College grounds, won their 8th and final game of the football season in the Barbados Secondary Football League: League 2 Cup. Goal scorers were Tyrique Belle (2), Rashawn Thomas and Dominic Dent.

HC have now finished 2nd in the league behind Frederick Smith Secondary by a mere 5 points and beating arch academic and sporting rivals Queen’s College into 3rd place. This win ensures that the team will be promoted to Division 1 having been relegated 2 years ago.

The full squad is Dominic Dent (Captain), Rashawn Thomas (Vice Captain and top scorer for the season), Harley Moseley (Team MVP), Tyrique Belle, Benjamin Davis, Nicholas Griffith, Rory Barton, Kyan Toppin, Lex Smith, Jide Griffith, Cody Clarke, Kaleb Gibbs, Ahijah Hill, Amir Alleyne, Jonathan Gardiner, Maximus Boxhill, Justin Greenidge and Amani Gillings.

The team must be praised for their hard work and determination from summer until now, throughout a long season.

It was truly a team effort and could not have been achieved without the Coach, Dexter Marshall, the Manager, Dwight Leach who is a teacher at the school and the parents and other supporters.

On Saturday, Tor Burrowes scored his first century ever for Harrison College on the last day of our 7th round Schools Division match against Combermere at Waterford.

He scored 118 runs with good support coming from Daniel Babb who made 35, chasing Combermere's 1st innings score of 238 made on the 1st day of play. Kolij ended on 197-7, the match ending in a no-result as the 2nd day's play was washed out.

We are elated that Tor has finally achieved this landmark after promising to do so on many occasions and hope that this serves as a catalyst for many more to come!

Series 6 match of the 2018 BCA Schools’ Championship on September 1, 8 & 15

Vashdeo Persaud moved down to the Schools Division for this match and showed his class by scoring 60 and 46 to lead Kolij over CP in a drawn match at home on the small field. Shakir Delph also scored his first 50 at this level in the 2nd innings...Well done to the young man who continues to work hard on his game.

Series 5 match of the 2018 BCA Schools’ Championship on August 11, 18 & 19:

Young spinner, Isiah Folkes got a 10 wicket haul when we faced up to the Foundation schoolboys at Church hill. Bowled out cheaply in both innings, we never got into the game....

At Church Hill:
Foundation beat Harrison College by an innings and 28 runs.

Harrison College 78 all out (Jadon Wilson 15, Zane Corbin 12; Isiah Folkes 5-12) and 33 all out (Kaleb Gibbs 12, Isiah Folkes 5-11, Kodi Straker 2-5, Amari Waithe 2-14).

Foundation 139-7 declared (Jakeem Forde 29 not out, Nathan Sealy 26, Jordan Reifer 18, Kamario Grant 18, Tyreque Nurse 15; Jadon Wilson 5-36).

Series 4 matches of the 2018 BCA Schools’ Championship on July 14, 21 & 28

Solid batting led by Zane Corbin and Duante Small meant that we gained 1st innings against the Elleslie boys. Jadon Wilson continues to show improvement all round and had a good game with both bat and ball.

Series 8 matches of the BCA Intermediate division three-day Championship on September 8, 15 & 16:

With work being carried out at our home ground we played this fixture at the Rubis ground on a hard, well prepared wicket. Batting first we made a solid 164 runs with Tor and Coach leading the way. We then dismissed Malvern for 133 after they were 124-4 at lunch on the 2nd day! Kristian Best was the chief destroyer with 5-34.

Malvern struck back by dismissing us for 91 on the last day with Jake Hart rallying the lower order with a top score of 26. However, they in turn were unable to reach the victory target of 123 runs even though the last wicket pair threatened to sn**ch victory from us. The last man was run out with only 9 runs needed for victory and many overs to spare!

At Brighton:

Harrison College beat Malvern by nine runs.

Malvern 133 all out and 114 all out (Anthony Young 20, J. Roberts 18, A. Davis 16, R. Gilkes 15, R. Sampson 13, C. Payne 12, A. Towler 11; Daniel Babb 5-25, T. Alleyne 2-17, J. Griffith 2-11).

Series 7 match of the BCA Intermediate division Championship on August 11, 18 and 19

Belleplaine withdrew from the competition which meant that we had a bye for our 6th series match. So we went on to our 7th series match the following month.

This match was marred by rain on the second day after Yorkshire batted most of the first day. There were questions about the covering of the wicket prior to the start of the second day which made batting difficult for us after an enterprising start the previous week.

Drawn.
