The Chinese University of Hong Kong—Fudan University Joint Research Center for International Finance will organise its third annual conference on July 16, 2026 at CUHK Shanghai Centre. This will be an in-person event, bringing together leading scholars, practitioners, and policymakers.

At the conference, we are honoured to welcome Prof. Jun Pan (SAIF) and Prof Shang-Jin Wei (Columbia University) as keynote speakers. In addition, 14 papers will be presented during the parallel sessions. Green and Sustainable Paper Awards – Merit Prize Winner: NG Pak Hei (ECON, Year 4)

We are delighted to announce that NG Pak Hei, our UG student, has won the Merit Prize at the Green and Sustainable Paper Awards, organized by the Environment and Sustainable Development Committee of Chung Chi College.

This award encourages students to explore sustainability issues locally and globally, foster commitment to sustainable development, and identify ways to enhance sustainability within the community.

Pak Hei’s paper, “A Shrinking Future? Hong Kong’s Fertility Crisis as a Sustainability Challenge”, examines the root causes of Hong Kong’s low fertility rate through macroeconomic forecasting and microeconomic causal analysis.

Pak Hei shared, “I am truly honoured to receive this award. Such recognition shows how an economics lens can illuminate pressing social issues, and motivates me to keep applying the techniques I’ve learnt in economics to real-world problems.”

Once again, congratulations to NG Pak Hei. May his achievement inspire more of our students to pursue impactful research in sustainability.

綠色及可持續論文獎 – 優異獎得主：吳柏熹（經濟學四年級）

我們很高興宣布，本科生吳柏熹榮獲由崇基學院環境及可持續發展委員會主辦的 綠色及可持續論文獎優異獎。

此獎項旨在鼓勵學生探索本地及海外的可持續發展議題，培養對可持續發展的承擔，並尋找提升社區可持續性的途徑。

吳柏熹的論文 《A Shrinking Future? Hong Kong’s Fertility Crisis as a Sustainability Challenge》，透過宏觀經濟預測及微觀經濟因果分析，研究香港低生育率的主要根源。

吳柏熹表示：「榮獲得此獎項，我深感榮幸。這份認同顯示經濟學的視角能夠剖析重要的社會議題，並推動我繼續把在經濟學中所學的技巧應用於真實的社會議題之中。」

再次恭喜吳柏熹，願他的成就能啟發更多同學投身於具影響力的可持續發展研究。

Call for Papers - 3rd Annual Conference of the CUHK-Fudan Joint Research Center for International Finance

The Chinese University of Hong Kong—Fudan University Joint Research Center for International Finance will organise its third annual conference on July 16, 2026, in Shanghai. We welcome papers in all areas of international finance and international trade. We will cover economy class airfare and accommodation up to 2 nights for accepted papers’ presenters (one presenter for each paper).

The program committee members include Shu Lin, Chang Ma, Jun Qian, Zheng Song, and Shang-Jin Wei. We are also thrilled to have Yan Bai as the keynote speaker at our upcoming conference.

The 10th CUHK Economics Project Exhibition was successfully held from April 20–24, bringing together creativity, curiosity, and academic excellence. Over the five-day exhibition, 78 research projects by our undergraduate students were showcased through poster presentations, covering a wide range of economic topics and innovative ideas.

This year’s exhibition set a new milestone — we welcomed more than 1,400 high school students from 51 schools, the largest turnout in the event’s history! Their enthusiasm and interaction made the atmosphere truly vibrant and inspiring.

[Call for Papers – China Economics Summer Institute (CESI), Deadline on May 8, 2026]

The 19th China Economics Summer Institute (CESI) will be held on August 14-15, 2026, at the Department of Economics, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. This will be an in-person meeting. CESI aims to create a network and community of top-level scholars working on Chinese economic development (working papers of previous CESI available at http://cesi.econ.cuhk.edu.hk/). This initiative is currently co-sponsored by the Chinese University of Hong Kong-Tsinghua University Joint Research Center for Chinese Economy, the Centre for Economic Policy at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the Guanghua School of Management at Peking University, the Stanford Center on China’s Economy and Institutions (SCCEI) at Stanford University, and the School of Economics and Management at Tsinghua University. The Summer Institute is organized in collaboration with the BREAD, NBER and CEPR networks of academic economists.

This call invites you to submit a paper or express interest in attending the above Summer Institute. The workshop intends to bring together scholars working on China across different parts of the world and build supportive mentoring networks for junior scholars. We welcome applications not only from those who want to present their research on China but also from anybody interested in doing serious economic research on China and would like to use the workshop to explore this possibility. During the workshop, there will be seminar presentations. Senior scholars who will attend will be available for consultations with junior scholars.

The scientific committee of the China Economics Summer Institute is composed of Chong-En Bai, Ruixue Jia, Amber Li, Hongbin Li, Ernest Liu, Yi Lu, Hong Ma, Juanjuan Meng, Albert Park, Gérard Roland, Zheng (Michael) Song, Heiwai Tang, Shaoda Wang, Daniel Xu, Xiaobo Zhang, Yifan Zhang, and Li-An Zhou. The committee is co-chaired by Ruixue Jia and Yifan Zhang.

第十屆中大經濟學專題展覽將於 4 月 20 日至 4 月 24 日舉行。在本系這項年度盛事中，我們本科學生將會透過海報展示他們的研究成果。今年我們在這五天將迎來破紀錄，來自 50 所學校的 1,400 名中學生！

為慶祝此項教學計劃成立十週年，我們將舉辦一個小型展覽，介紹幾位古典經濟學家的生平。展覽由著名本地漫畫家Cuson Lo（.LoChiKong）繪製插圖，並配以經濟學者兼專欄作家曾國平教授（）撰寫的解說文字。

如果您在週一（4 月 20 日）下午得閒，誠邀您蒞臨中大利黃瑤璧樓（Esther Lee Building）G/F及 LG/F參與現場匯報環節，屆時將有近 200 名學生進行展示。

The 10th CUHK Economics Project Exhibition will run from April 20 to April 24. This annual event gives our undergraduate students a chance to showcase their research through poster presentations. We are expecting a record breaking 1,400 high school students from 50 schools over the five day period!

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of this pedagogical initiative, a mini exhibition will feature the lives of several classical economists, illustrated by the renowned local cartoonist Cuson Lo and accompanied by didactic text written by columnist and economics scholar Prof. Byron Tsang.

If you are free on Monday (April 20) afternoon, please consider stopping by the Esther Lee Building G/F and L/G/F for the live presentation session, where nearly 200 of our students will be presenting.
