*IGUMBOR-OTIKU SECONDARY SCHOOL HOLDS STAFF SEMINAR ON ETHICS, DISCIPLINE, AND PEDAGOGY AHEAD OF SCHOOL RESUMPTION*

As part of efforts to boost the morale and productivity of its teachers, the management of Igumbor-Otiku Secondary School, Agbor, under the leadership of the Principal, Mrs. P.E. Uduh, has organized a one-day seminar for staff with the theme: “Staff Ethics/Discipline and Pedagogies for Secondary School Teachers on Lesson Delivery.”
The programme, held within the school premises, came at a critical time as schools in Delta State prepare to resume academic activities next week. The training, described by many as timely and impactful, was designed to equip teachers with fresh insights on ethics, discipline, and modern pedagogical approaches to lesson delivery.
Declaring the workshop open, the principal, Mrs. Uduh P.E., noted that the in-house training was conceived to strengthen the professional capacity of teachers, rekindle their sense of discipline, and ensure a more result-oriented teaching atmosphere in the new academic session. She thanked the teachers for their unwavering support and urged them to make the most of the lessons from the session.
The first guest speaker, Dr. (Mrs.) Felicia O. Mormah of the Faculty of Education, University of Delta, Agbor, spoke extensively on “Pedagogical Training for Secondary School Teachers.” In her presentation, she stressed that “no nation can rise above the quality of its teachers and educational system,” emphasizing the central role of educators in shaping not just students, but the future of the society at large. Her session was filled with practical illustrations and strategies that kept participants engaged, leaving many teachers motivated to improve their classroom practices.
The second resource person, Mrs. Blessing Idoye, a Senior Deputy Registrar (SDR), delivered a paper on “Work Ethics and Staff Discipline.” She reminded the teachers that professionalism and discipline are the bedrock of effective teaching. According to her, “Discipline and good work ethics should be the hallmark of every teacher, and management must set the pace by enforcing standards.” She also charged teachers to see themselves not just as conveyors of knowledge but as role models for their students.
The seminar was not only an avenue for learning but also for self-reflection and bonding among the staff. Teachers openly acknowledged the need for renewed commitment to their duties as the school prepares for resumption.
Speaking with the EOB News crew, Comrade Gilbert Osuhun, one of the teachers and a member of the organizing committee, commended the principal for being proactive. He noted that the seminar was an eye-opener and urged other school heads to emulate the initiative. “This type of programme should not just be a one-off. It should be encouraged across all schools because it empowers teachers and ultimately benefits the students,” he remarked.
The one-day training ended on a high note, with teachers expressing gratitude to the school management for prioritizing their professional development. It was evident that the seminar rekindled a collective resolve among staff to embrace better work ethics, uphold discipline, and adopt innovative pedagogies in lesson delivery.
With the new academic session just days away, the Igumbor-Otiku Secondary School community appears set to hit the ground running, armed with fresh ideas and renewed energy, thanks to the foresight of its management.
