Some of our Year 5 children enjoyed an exciting STEAM experience at Chatham & Clarendon House School! They explored science, technology, art, maths and food technology, making key fobs, screen-printing tote bags and taking part in some cooking activities. A fantastic day of creativity, learning and hands-on fun!

Year 5 had a wonderful visit to Al-Birr Mosque in Margate this week as part of their RE lessons! We heard the call to prayer live, learnt about the importance of prayer from the Imam, and enjoyed a tour of the mosque. A fantastic opportunity to learn more and ask questions!

This term EYFS are learning all about animals. We had a fantastic day at Wingham Wildlife Park learning about the different wild animals we encountered. We particularly enjoyed the sunbathing meerkats, seeing the giraffes getting their lunch, the baby chimpanzee and the penguins diving into the water. We had lunch in the shade and fun on the adventure playground. It was lovely to have other zoo visitors, including wheelchair users, commenting on how respectful we are. We have also used our investigation skills to go on a minibeast hunt in the forest. We peered into cracks in the tree bark, peeked under large logs and stones, dug in the mud and looked closely at leaves and flowers. We found snails, worms, butterflies, woodlice, ants, ladybirds, beetles and even a moth.

We were all so proud to hear about the amazing children who took part in the Thanet Schools Swimming Gala on Sunday. For some of them, this was their time swimming in the gala - which is a really nerve wracking experience! They all did brilliantly - even offering to swim for another school when they were one swimmer short! We look forward to celebrating them in Celebration and Worship on Friday!

On the last day of term, the school was visited by our local MP, Sir Roger Gale. He met with our school council who asked him questions about his life as an MP. Five of the councillors then got to take him on a tour of our school. It was a fascinating visit and perfectly complemented the trip to the Houses of Parliament that our older councillors went on last autumn.

This week, our Year 5 and 6 classes attended a church service to celebrate Pentecost – often called the birthday of the church. Some of the children retold the story of the Holy Spirit coming amongst the disciples 50 days after Easter and we sang two hymns the children know very well. Rev Mark and Ms Bant also talked to us about the importance of Pentecost and, as has become a key part of our church services this year, went amongst the congregation asking questions of the children and also the parents and carers who attended. We now look forward to our ‘Those Who Love Us’ service on Friday 19th June at 10am (for Year R and 3) and then our Leavers’ Service for Year 6 at 11am on the last day of the year.

2D have been working on descriptive writing over the last couple of weeks. This week, they wore their editing glasses to find any mistakes and improve their work before writing up the final drafts! Great job 2D!

On Saturday, Mrs Harper took some of our Year 5 and 6 netballers to the festival at CCGS. The girls had the best time (as did Mrs Harper!). They worked so well as a team and in the first round won 4 out of the 5 games (absolutely amazing), putting them in the top 3 in their group and into the next round to compete to win the tournament. They didn't manage to win but they all had the best time, smiled throughout and showed real sportsmanship, giving their all in every match. So that's a win in our eyes!🙂
Mrs Harper and everyone at BCEP are so incredibly proud of them.

One of our players even received star player from the umpires 7 times!! 2nd highest out of every child at the tournament! Amazing!
