Your journey. Our guidance.

Getting started in falconry should feel clear, structured, and properly supported. That is why the new Falconry Course is being built around a simple roadmap,

Learn the theory.

Work through the guides and worksheets.

Ask questions when you need support.

Build practical skills through private lessons.

Track your progress properly.

Prepare for assessment when you are ready.

This gives beginners a proper route into falconry with Dan and Cerys, rather than rushing them through information and hoping it sticks.

Knowledge first. Skills second. Confidence through preparation.

Falconry Course relaunching 1 August 2026!

10/06/2026

We are changing the way Falconry Course works because beginners deserve time to learn properly, not be rushed through theory, practical work, and assessment all at once.

The new format is built around preparation.

Students will be able to learn the theory at their own pace first, then move on to private practical lessons at Mercer Falconry, with progress tracked properly along the way.

Theory first.
Practical skills second.
Assessment when ready.

This gives complete beginners a clearer route towards Raptor Awards assessment, while building the knowledge, confidence, and practical understanding needed for responsible raptor keeping.

Falconry should be learned properly, and that is exactly what this new structure is designed to support.

Why we are changing the Falconry Course format?

Falconry should not feel rushed.

A lot of people come into falconry with genuine enthusiasm, but enthusiasm on its own is not enough. Before anyone starts thinking seriously about keeping, handling, training, or flying a bird of prey, they need time to understand the responsibilities behind it.

That includes accommodation, equipment, feeding, hygiene, health monitoring, record keeping, handling, training principles, legal responsibilities, and welfare-led decision making.

Trying to squeeze all of that into a short block can leave beginners feeling overwhelmed. It can also make it harder to separate “I have seen this done” from “I properly understand why it is done this way.”

That is why Falconry Course is being rebuilt as a more structured learning journey.

The new format will bring together:

online learning
the 9 Raptor Awards theory presentations
a companion guide
worksheets
a practical progress workbook
private practical lessons at Mercer Falconry
WhatsApp student community support
assessment preparation
The aim is not to make falconry look easy.

To help responsible beginners prepare properly, ask better questions, build confidence at the right pace, and understand the standards expected before moving forward.

Falconry is a serious commitment.

More details coming soon as we rebuild the learning pathway.

Big changes are Coming to Falconry Course

Dan and Cerys are currently hard at work building the next generation of Falconry Course, and we are both really excited to announce that our brand new training programme will officially launch on the 1st of August! (we hope because we still have lots of work to do on it 😬)

Over the past months we have been redesigning the way people can learn falconry. We want to make learning more flexible, more accessible, and more effective for modern falconers.

New Online Learning Area

Students will receive access to a dedicated online learning platform where they can work through the complete Raptor Awards theory syllabus at their own pace, including:

✅ 9 professionally structured theory presentations covering all Raptor Awards modules
✅ A comprehensive companion study guide
✅ Downloadable worksheets and learning activities
✅ Additional learning resources and reference materials
✅ Access to a dedicated WhatsApp community for support, questions and discussion with fellow students and instructors

No more trying to absorb everything on a single 5 day course. Learn the theory when it suits you, revisit topics whenever needed, and arrive prepared for the practical elements.

New Practical Lesson System at Mercer Falconry

We're also introducing a completely new practical training pathway.
Rather than attending a fixed block course, students will be able to book:

✅ Private 1-hour lessons
✅ Private 2-hour lessons

One-to-one instruction, tailored to individual progress. Each student will receive a practical progress workbook, allowing them to work through every skill required for the Raptor Awards practical assessment. As your confidence and competence grow, you can tick off each practical element until you are fully prepared for assessment.

Our new system allows students to:
• Learn theory at home in their own time
• Receive personalised practical instruction
• Progress at a pace that suits them
• Build genuine confidence before assessment
• Join a growing community of aspiring falconers

Both Dan and Cerys cannot wait to show you what we've been building.

📅 Launch Date: 1st August

Keep an eye on our page over the coming weeks as we'll be sharing sneak peeks, previews and more details about the new Falconry Course experience!
