PALAWANSU–Coron Conducts Clean-up Drive

On July 17, 2026, Palawan State University–Coron Campus conducted a clean-up drive as part of its preparations for the opening of classes. The activity was led by the Higher and Lower Student Council officers, with the participation of students from different departments.

Participants cleaned the campus surroundings according to their designated departmental areas to help maintain a safe, clean, and conducive learning environment. The clean-up drive was conducted from 8:00–11:00 a.m. and 1:00–4:00 p.m.

By virtue of Board Resolution No. 76, s. 2026, dated June 24, 2026, the Palawan State University Board of Regents officially proclaimed Dr. Venzon L. Limpiada as the 10th University President of Palawan State University.

The PalawanSU community extends its warmest congratulations to Dr. Venzon L. Limpiada on this significant milestone. As the University embarks on a new chapter of leadership, we look forward to advancing PalawanSU's mandate in instruction, research, extension, innovation, and governance under Dr. Limpiada's stewardship.

Dr. Limpiada will officially assume office as University President on July 6, 2026.

‎Palawan State University–Coron, headed by Campus Director Ms. Juwelyn P. Fabon, conducted a recognition program on April 30, 2026. The program aimed to recognize students’ outstanding academic performance. In addition, this recognition acknowledged the leadership of campus and student organizations and stakeholders, especially the Parent-Teacher Council (PTC) and the Local Government Unit (LGU), for their continuous support, which greatly contributed to the achievements of the students and the campus.
‎
‎The recognition program was hosted by Mr. Mark James E. Dadaya, an Education faculty member. The program began with the welcome remarks of Campus Director Ms. Juwelyn P. Fabon, who shared the message: “With faith, determination, and courage, there is no limit to what we can achieve. Challenges may come, but they are not meant to stop us.”

‎Moreover, the guest speaker, Ens. Leo G. Bacuel, a former Criminology student of PalawanSU-Coron and now the Deputy Station Commander of the Coast Guard in Eastern Palawan, Cuyo, was introduced by Atty. Albert C. Garraez. In his captivating message, Ens. Bacuel reminisced about his years as a student and dreamer at PalawanSU-Coron. Additionally, he expressed heartfelt gratitude to the faculty and staff for continuously building a strong foundation for students like him. Ens. Bacuel concluded with an inspiring message, saying: “First, failure is not the end; it is an opportunity to learn, grow, and become better. Second, success is not defined by intelligence alone, but by discipline, perseverance, and the determination to keep going. Lastly, never forget the people who supported you.”

‎This was followed by the awarding ceremony, which recognized students for their excellent performance. Students received the Academic Excellence Award, Academic Proficiency Award, and Certificates of Recognition for Leadership as members of student organizations. Certificates of Recognition were also given to the Parent-Teacher Council (PTC) for their leadership and unwavering support for the students.

‎The program concluded with the closing remarks delivered by Ms. Joan O. Kong. She congratulated all the awardees and expressed hope that the recognition would serve as motivation for students to strive for more. Lastly, Ms. Kong also acknowledged the faculty, student organizations, LGU, and PTC as part of the students’ journey toward these achievements.

In coordination with the Campus Director, Ms. Juwelyn P. Fabon, ‎a seminar on digital security was held on April 23, 2026, at Palawan State University- Coron Campus CC3 Gymnasium. A representative from the LGU-DICT conducted the seminar to raise awareness and enhance knowledge about technological security. It was presided over by Mr. Kieth Andrew A. Asuero, Project Development Officer I of DICT-Palawan.
‎
‎The seminar emphasized digital era, emergence of AI and other advancing technologies that transforming the society. It has also created a new landscape where digital consciousness has become a critical frontier. One significant issue discussed was the need to address concerns in government systems and explore solutions such as blockchain technology, which has the potential to promote transparency through the implementation of Senate Bill 1330 (Cadena Act).
‎
‎The seminar also underscored ethical considerations through the FEAT Principles (Fairness, Ethics, Accountability, and Transparency), serving as a guide for digital users in navigating the internet responsibly. A crucial reality was emphasized: “Zero risk does not exist,” a truth that everyone should recognize. The discussion also highlighted major security threats such as data breaches (top cybercrime), hacking (intrusion), cyberbullying, catfishing, grooming, phishing, smishing, vishing, malware, and identity theft.

‎As the event concluded, the awarding of recognition was led by Sir Prince Joseph Magbanua, who handed out certificates to the speakers. Their advocacy conveyed one united message to all: vigilance is a shared responsibility and duty.

‎On April 15, 2026, after a day full of productive activities and discussions at the 2026 PAEPI International Extension Conference, the evening event was filled with entertaining performances.
‎
‎Hosted by Mr. Mark James E. Dadaya, certificates of appreciation were awarded to the organizers who facilitated and made the program possible and successful.
‎
‎PalawanSU–Coron played a significant role in the evening. The Lahiwayas Cultural Dancers of PalawanSU–Coron performed a cultural dance, followed by singing performances by Jedward Cabrera and Elmea Amoren, both students of PalawanSU–Coron.
‎
‎As the event concluded, Dr. Fernando M. Cruz delivered his closing message, expressing acknowledgment and appreciation to everyone involved.

The 2026 PAEPI International Conference proceeded its second day unfolding the dynamic exchanges of ideas from experts for transformation and bridging of knowledge, formally inaugurated on April 15, 2026 at Tag Resort, Coron, Palawan.
‎
‎The second day of the PAEPI International Conference 2026 marked another successful gathering of extension professionals, highlighting collaboration and innovation in the field. Mr. Mark James E. Dadaya, a faculty member of Palawan State University (PalawanSU), served as the official host, guiding the day's proceedings with excellence.

‎The program began with a solemn opening led by Musiklahi, followed by the singing of the National Anthem, PSU Hymn, and PAEPI Hymn. Welcome remarks were delivered by the PalawanSU Vice President for external campuses, Dr. Rodolfo O. Abalus Jr. and PalawanSU-Coron Director Juwelyn P. Fabon. Meanwhile, the inspirational message was given by PAEPI President Dr. Hermogenes M. Paguia which also recognized the plenary speakers and announced the upcoming PAEPI National Outstanding Extensionist of the Year Award.
‎
‎Messages from local officials of Coron, along with the presentation of the conference objectives and introduction of participants, set the tone for the day. Before the plenary sessions, an entertaining performance by PalawanSU- Coron Lahiwayas Cultural Dancers was held, followed by a photo opportunity for guests and attendees.
‎
‎The first plenary session, led by Dr. Mercedita A. Sombilla of SEARCA, focused on policy pathways and innovation ecosystems for sustainable community extension. She emphasized the role of extension as a bridge between research and practice, transforming knowledge into actionable solutions for communities.
‎
‎Dr. Melvin B. Carlos of DOST-PCAARRD delivered the second plenary session, discussing the importance of scaling science-based innovations. He highlighted the limited progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals and stressed the need to expand evidence-based solutions. He also introduced the LIFE Model, which has proven effective both locally and internationally.

‎The third plenary session featured Dr. Robert C. Kemerait Jr. from the University of Georgia, who discussed improving horticultural productivity through smart farming technologies. He highlighted the role of digital tools such as sensors, drones, robotics, and artificial intelligence in modern agriculture, while also raising concerns about challenges faced by farmers, including limited resources and infrastructure.

‎Dr. Beng P. Umali, the fourth plenary speaker, emphasized the importance of collaboration and data-driven systems in agriculture. He discussed the need to build strong digital ecosystems and shared global comparisons, as well as local challenges such as natural disasters affecting agricultural productivity. He also introduced international initiatives aimed at strengthening agricultural systems.
‎The fifth plenary session, presented by Dr. Ericson M. Dela Cruz of the Philippine Carabao Center, focused on developing the buffalo industry through extension and technology transfer. He highlighted policies, research initiatives, and programs designed to improve productivity and strengthen the agricultural value chain.

‎Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wereporn Thongma from Maejo University in Thailand delivered the sixth plenary session via teleconference. She discussed Thailand’s extension model, emphasizing sustainability, community development, and innovation, with examples such as the Royal Project and premium agricultural products.
‎The seventh plenary session, presented by Dr. Wen-Li Lee of Taiwan Agricultural Research Institute, explored the development of horticulture in Taiwan. He discussed advancements in smart farming, market diversification, and government support, while also addressing challenges such as climate risks.
‎
‎The final plenary speaker, Dr. Ronald R. Alonzo of Bulacan Agricultural State College, highlighted the importance of global partnerships in agriculture.
‎
‎He presented the “Palayamanan” model, which integrates crops and livestock to maximize land use and improve farmers’ income, emphasizing collaboration between institutions and communities.
‎
‎Overall, the second day of the conference showcased the significant role of extension professionals in connecting research, innovation, and community development, reinforcing their contribution to sustainable agricultural progress.
