“A butterflies feelings”

As the Sayaw Southern Leyte Performing Arts Group - Sasole PAG waited for their turn to present during the IZN summit, they were filled with mixed emotions. They felt both excited and nervous, knowing that they would be performing before distinguished SLSU visitors, especially foreign guests. Despite the tension and butterflies they felt, their eagerness to dance and share their talent remained strong.

More than anything, they were proud and honored to represent the Filipino culture, their group SASOLE, and the university through their performance. Their emotions reflected not only anticipation, but also their deep passion and dedication to making the presentation meaningful and memorable.

The Sayaw Southern Leyte Performing Arts Group - Sasole PAG (SASOLE) Performing Arts Group proudly showcased their talent and cultural artistry through a remarkable performance of the Banga - Salidsid Dance from the Cordillera during the IZN Summit held on March 6, 2026. With grace, discipline, and strong cultural expression, the performers delivered their routine at their very best, demonstrating balance, coordination, and deep appreciation for the rich traditions of the Cordillera region. Their performance captivated the audience and highlighted the group’s dedication to preserving and promoting Filipino cultural heritage through dance. The presentation also reflected the commitment of SASOLE members who worked tirelessly in preparation, resulting in a vibrant and memorable cultural showcase during the summit.

The group are very thankful to the following person who help to make this production a success: Teacher Anna Varon of VSU, Teacher Mark Gallego of Baybay National High School, Teacher Kevin Tanguihan of BIPSU and Teacher Ryan Teofel of Biliran Province.

For more than a month, the members tirelessly devoted their time and effort to rigorous practices held both day and night. Through their perseverance, discipline, and passion for the performing arts, the group continuously refined their choreography, coordination, and overall performance quality.

Their unwavering commitment reflects not only their love for dance but also their determination to deliver a meaningful and excellent presentation that showcases the rich cultural heritage of the country, Philippines. The Sayaw Southern Leyte Performing Arts Group - Sasole PAG actively participated in the 20th Commemoration of the Guinsaugon Landslide, held on February 17, 2026, at Barangay New Guinsaugon, St. Bernard, Southern Leyte.

As part of the program’s cultural intermission, the group presented two traditional Filipino folk dances, Pingapinga and Binasuan, showcasing the rich cultural heritage and artistry of Philippine folk traditions. Their performance served as a meaningful tribute during the commemorative program, providing a moment of reflection, unity, and cultural expression in remembrance of the lives affected by the Guinsaugon tragedy.

The participation of the Sayaw Southern Leyte Performing Arts Group contributed to the solemn yet celebratory atmosphere of the event, highlighting the role of performing arts in preserving culture and strengthening community solidarity during significant historical commemorations.

“Rehearsal today, Applause tomorrow”

The SLSU - SJ Live Band spends their afternoons not just playing songs, but building discipline, teamwork, and confiden, one note at a time. In every rehearsal, you can see the quiet determination behind the music: instruments tuned carefully, harmonies repeated until they lock in, cues practiced until everyone moves as one, and mistakes treated not as failures but as lessons. This is where growth happens when the campus is calm, when the heat of the day lingers, and when the only goal is to sound better than yesterday.

Their afternoon rehearsals reflect a belief that excellence is earned, not wished for. Each beat they tighten, each transition they polish, and each vocal line they strengthen is an investment in the moments they’ll share with the SLSU–SJ community during programs, celebrations, and events where their music becomes part of the campus story. They rehearse with respect for the craft and with gratitude for every opportunity to represent their school through sound.

Each session strengthens our skills in timing, coordination, and proper ex*****on of movements while building unity and confidence among the dancers. Guided by our dance director and Choreographer, we focus on mastering routines that reflect our culture and passion for the arts. Through consistent practice, we aim to deliver polished performances that represent Southern Leyte with pride and excellence.
